AN AUSTRALIAN accused of killing an Irish tourist in Sydney three years ago has been acquitted in court.
Gearóid Walsh (23) died just one month after he arrived in Australia for a new life.
He got into an argument with Tobias Simmons (30) outside a takeaway food shop and was knocked unconscious with a punch.
A week later in October 2009 his family, from Dublin, made the heartbreaking decision to turn off his life support machine.

After her son died his heartbroken mother Tressa Walsh said she did not want the man accused of killing her son jailed.
Mrs Walsh described Gearoid's five weeks in Australia as the "happiest of his life".
"I would really like to say that, as a mother, I really feel for this guy who got into a fight with Gearoid. I am heartbroken for him because we don't blame him, we don't want him to serve time in prison.Welcome to polished tiles. In September 2009 Gearoid left the family's home in Dublin to travel over to Brisbane after his older brother Ciaran organised a job for him as a roof insulator.
"He came to Australia to spend time in this beautiful country and to be with his older brother Ciaran and his sister Aoife who are lucky to live here," his mother said. "He came over here to work, as there is no work in Ireland at the moment."
Gearoid and his brother Ciaran travelled from Brisbane to Sydney to help celebrate their sister Aoife's 22nd birthday. They had been drinking in a number of hotels in Coogee, an area on Sydney's eastern beaches popular with Irish backpackers, before Gearoid and his brother went into a fast-food outlet around 11pm.

He became involved in a row with another man, after which the brothers left the take-away. However, he returned a short time later and the argument continued. Gearoid was allegedly struck and he fell, hitting his head on the pavement.

"Even though Gearoid is a big guy, he wasn't a fighter at all," she said.
His mother maintained her composure as she described the "most positive" aspect of this awful incident was Gearoid's organs being donated to save the lives of several Australians.
“Three years ago I lost my husband, and now my family have lost an adored son, brother, and uncle. Gearoid was like a father figure to my eldest granddaughter, she is seven and so distraught," she said in 2009.
"I can't describe how devastated myself and Gearoid's brother, and sisters and nieces are but sadly our lives will never be the same without Gearoid."

“It was like registering for my wedding,” said Perry, 32, the school’s lead culinary instructor. She had experience stocking working kitchens when she was employed in the culinary program at Robert Morris College in the Chicago area.
Before Lincoln Land’s winter break in 2010, Perry was approached about selecting the 3,000 items the school’s new culinary center would need. Medical device can propel itself through the bloodstream
At the International Solid-State Circuits Conference before an audience of her peers, electrical engineer Ada Poon demonstrated a tiny, wirelessly powered, self-propelled medical device capable of controlled motion through a fluid—blood more specifically. The era of swallow-the-surgeon medical care may no longer be the stuff of science fiction.
Poon is an assistant professor at the Stanford School of Engineering. She is developing a new class of medical devices that can be implanted or injected into the human body and powered wirelessly using electromagnetic radio waves. "When we extended things to higher frequencies using a simple model of tissue we realized that the optimal frequency for wireless powering is actually around one gigahertz," said Poon, "about 100 times higher than previously thought."
More significantly, however, her revelation meant that antennae inside the body could be 100 times smaller and yet deliver the same power.

During a normal winter season, contractors are working inside, hardware stores are selling sleds and shovels, and most residents are staying snug indoors. "We're a nuts-and-bolts store," Funkhouser said. "That's what keeps us going, winter sales don't make or break us."

"We had to squeeze some paint jobs in before winter," Bartlett said. "Then the (mild) weather came and we got to paint in February too."
Working throughout the year eases the workload for contracting companies such as B&S. Bartlett said it allows them to spread the work they do on the outside and inside evenly, instead of delaying it.

Working throughout the year eases the workload for contracting companies such as B&S. Bartlett said it allows them to spread the work they do on the outside and inside evenly, instead of delaying it.

Mickey Weiss visits Bethany Place to keep himself and his drug-using friends alive.
Weiss is a 34-year-old drug addict who lives in Collinsville. Once a week, he goes to the Belleville nonprofit agency to pick up new needles, a vial of the overdose reversal drug naloxone and an injection kit.
The kit comes in a black plastic bag that contains the other tools he needs to shoot up speed and heroin: a tourniquet, alcohol wipes, filters and a cooker to liquefy the drug. Taxpayers spent $15,000 on the Belleville program last year.
The needles and kit help prevent Weiss from contracting and spreading blood-transmitted diseases such as HIV and hepatitis C. The naloxone has helped him save lives.

In a single week, Weiss injected naloxone into three overdosing people who had injected heroin mixed with fentanyl. One got mad because he killed her high.

Weiss is one of 317 participants in Southern Illinois' only needle exchange program. Intravenous drug users can pick up the free needle supplies, 24 hours a day, seven days a week at Bethany Place, 821 W. A. St. in Belleville. The program also provides needle disposal bins, condoms and information about drug treatment services.
Since its inception in 2009, the confidential program has dispensed thousands of needles and collected 58,134 used needles, according to Executive Director Angela Barnes.
"Our goal is to stop the spread of HIV," Barnes said.
Bethany Place serves a 12-county area in the metro-east and is one of eight needle exchange programs across the state that rely on taxpayer and private money to distribute 4 million needles a year, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Bethany Place's naloxone is provided through the Chicago Recovery Alliance, which buys it with private money from the North American Syringe Exchange Network. The local program has had 145 participants who have reversed 50 overdoses, Barnes said.
The criticisms that have dogged needle exchange programs since they began decades ago are shared by some community members and law enforcement officers who are concerned about the drug overdose epidemic that has gripped the metro-east.
"Sounds like legalized drug dealing," Madison County Sheriff Robert Hertz said when told of the program. "At what point are they going to hand out the heroin, too?"
Susanne Dashner, of Belleville, said the program encourages addicts such as her 27-year-old son to continue to use.
"The problem is that not only do they give them syringes, they give them the little cooking cup, they give them the filters, and they give them a tourniquet so they got everything they need to use to illegally shoot up heroin," said Dashner. "And if that doesn't top it off, they give them the generic form of Narcan."
Public and private health officials counter that needle exchange programs neither facilitate nor encourage drug use, citing years of research to the contrary. They also explained that disease can spread through the shared use and re-use of tourniquets, filters and cookers.
"We are helping them prevent infection," said Stephenie Koester, Bethany Place's community education and prevention coordinator. "We are not helping them use."
But even someone understanding of the program voiced concerns after a Belleville woman overdosed on heroin Feb. 8 in one of Bethany Place's bathrooms. She was revived by staff but was later charged with possessing heroin.
"I think it's quite clear to many people in the community that Bethany Place does great work in terms of protecting public health and preventing the spread of diseases like HIV and hepatitis," St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly said. "But again I have a concern that their needle exchange program be tightly administered in a way that doesn't conflict with the mission of law enforcement."
"It's a tricky balance between public health and public safety."
It wasn't Bethany Place's idea to start handing out needles and injection kits to drug addicts.
In 2009, the AIDS Foundation of Chicago asked Bethany Place to become the first needle exchange program south of Springfield because of St. Clair County's high rate of HIV, said Jessica Terlikowski, the AIDS Foundation's director of regional organizing. The foundation was paying for needle exchange programs through a state grant.
St. Clair County had the fifth-highest rate of new diagnoses of HIV and AIDS cases the past six years among Illinois counties, according to an October 2011 report by the Illinois Public Health Department.
"There wasn't a program down there," Terlikowski said. "And there was a need down there."
Needle exchange programs in Illinois have ties to Chicago organizations that started programs in the 1990s in reaction to the AIDS epidemic.
The Chicago Recovery Alliance established the state's first needle exchange program in 1992 solely using private donations. Within the next decade, it developed a naloxone program.
Illinois needle exchange programs are covered by an exemption in the Illinois Hypodermic Syringes and Needles Act that allows participants in scientific research programs to carry an unspecified number of needles. An amendment added in 2003 allows anyone 18 or older to buy needles from a pharmacy without a prescription and possess up to 20 needles.
The law does not protect anybody who has illegal drugs in either their needles or injection equipment, Kelly said.We are professional Plastic mould,
Bethany Place participants carry around a card citing the exemption that allows them to carry needles. Barnes said she has had to ask Kelly to dismiss charges in a couple of cases where participants have been wrongly charged by officers.
"My concern is, what is the scientific value in handing out needles beyond the permitted amount of 20 or below?" Kelly said.
Chicago Recovery Alliance Executive Director Dan Bigg said research shows needle exchange participants will pick up needles for their acquaintances, therefore spreading the use of clean needles and preventing disease.
Why don't addicts just buy their supplies from pharmacies?
Weiss said he dreaded that awkward purchase so much he would find someone who didn't look like a junkie to buy needles for him. Also, some addicts may also be reluctant to spend money on needles that could otherwise be used to buy drugs.
"The bottom line is you want me to have this," Weiss said. "It's a community health risk to not have this."

While Central Falls is often called a "failed city" that was taken over by the state and later filed for bankruptcy, a new project is highlighting a very different story: its history as a chocolate manufacturer during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
Ritz says the "Save Chocolateville" bar — honoring Central Falls' nickname — recalls the tale of an American city that once thrived as a manufacturer, sank into decline and is trying to turn itself around. Proceeds will go to a yet-undecided program benefiting city children.
"Chocolateville to me represents the spirit of ingenuity, entrepreneurship, productivity, and — when that first mill building was created there — it was the heart of the community," said Ritz, who heads the organization Leadership Rhode Island. The old Wheat chocolate factory that operated along the Blackstone River is pictured on the chocolate bar's label.
"The bar will make some money for the kids, no doubt. But it's almost more important that the bar gets distributed ..Museum Quality hand-painted oil painting reproduction on canvas.. so that it can tell the story of Chocolateville and Central Falls," he added. "To me, it's the story of America in one square mile. The bar itself is just a calling card to tell that story."

Woman Shot In Downtown El Paso By Bullet From Mexico Speaks About Incident

Shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday, Maria arrived at her Lower Valley home. She exited the vehicle on crutches.

"We do take this extremely seriously," El Paso Mayor John Cook said on Tuesday. "This is another difficulty for El Paso and the border region when we're trying to highlight how safe our community is. This is still a great place to live."

The Fire Deparment's Office of Fire Investigations has determined that embers or flames from the stack of a train ignited tar and other byproducts that have built up in the shaft from years of trains passing and idling underneath, according to Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.

Before Hollywood's most coveted golden statuette makes its way into the hands of an Oscar winner, it has to be made -- and that happens right here in Chicago.
For the last 30 years, Chicago-based R.S. Owens & Company has been making the Academy Award of Merit, better known as “Oscar,” at Owens’ North Side manufacturing facility.
Founded in 1938 by Owen Siegel, the company is now run by his son, Scott Siegel.
Siegel says the Oscars came to R.S. Owens after the previous maker went out of business in the early 1980s.
“They told the Motion Picture Academy that they were no longer manufacturing awards and recommended us, which was quite nice,” said Siegel. “We were already manufacturing the Emmys at that time. It takes 10 skilled artisans about 5 hours to make the Oscar.
They begin by casting the award in a special alloy developed specifically for Oscar, called Britannium.
Next, the finished mold is cleaned up and buffed to a mirror-like shine.
“I think the most difficult part is when you go in polishing. By this time, the award is handled with white gloves only, and prepared for packing and shipping to Los Angeles.
And while R.S. Owens is most famous for making the Oscar statuette, it is just one of many prestigious awards manufactured right here in Chicago.
Owens has produced some of the most well-known trophies on the planet, including the MTV Music Award and the Primetime Emmy.
When the creators of American Idol realized they needed their own signature award after seven seasons, R.S. Owens was the obvious choice to design and manufacture the prize.
“We’ve created some amazing, amazing awards,” Siegel said. “And what I love to hear from our customers is that our awards exceed their expectations, that they get it and they’re just so pleased and so wowed by what we’re able to accomplish here.”
In 2010, they were asked by the makers of AMC’s Emmy award-winning drama, Mad Men, to produce a replica of the 1964 Clio Award for excellence in advertising -- for use on the show.

For the last 30 years, Chicago-based R.S. Owens & Company has been making the Academy Award of Merit, better known as “Oscar,” at Owens’ North Side manufacturing facility.
Founded in 1938 by Owen Siegel, the company is now run by his son, Scott Siegel.
Siegel says the Oscars came to R.S. Owens after the previous maker went out of business in the early 1980s.
“They told the Motion Picture Academy that they were no longer manufacturing awards and recommended us, which was quite nice,” said Siegel. “We were already manufacturing the Emmys at that time. It takes 10 skilled artisans about 5 hours to make the Oscar.
They begin by casting the award in a special alloy developed specifically for Oscar, called Britannium.
Next, the finished mold is cleaned up and buffed to a mirror-like shine.
“I think the most difficult part is when you go in polishing. “This is the old engraving system. This is where we put the serial numbers on the Oscar statuette itself,” said R.S. Owens worker Louise White.
Interestingly, the company makes engraved plates for all of the nominees to keep the winner a secret. The final plate is added after the winner is announced.
By this time, the award is handled with white gloves only, and prepared for packing and shipping to Los Angeles.
And while R.S. Owens is most famous for making the Oscar statuette, it is just one of many prestigious awards manufactured right here in Chicago.
Owens has produced some of the most well-known trophies on the planet, including the MTV Music Award and the Primetime Emmy.
When the creators of American Idol realized they needed their own signature award after seven seasons, R.S. Owens was the obvious choice to design and manufacture the prize.
“We’ve created some amazing, amazing awards,” Siegel said. “And what I love to hear from our customers is that our awards exceed their expectations, that they get it and they’re just so pleased and so wowed by what we’re able to accomplish here.”
In 2010, they were asked by the makers of AMC’s Emmy award-winning drama, Mad Men, to produce a replica of the 1964 Clio Award for excellence in advertising -- for use on the show.
While the company uses the latest in manufacturing technology, it prides itself on traditional hand-crafted artistry.
“We’re one of the last manufacturers of awards in the United States,” Siegel said. “We’re probably the only manufacturer of our kind that’s pretty much full service, from design to making molds, and casting and fabricating out of aluminum, brass and crystal. Panagiotis Sfountouris, 74, says he'll never forget that day. He was just 6 years old when he and his younger sister escaped death by hiding in a relative's basement. When they returned home, they found their parents shot dead and their 2-year-old brother gutted by a bayonet.

Nikos Bouras, who works at the town hall, often unlocks the museum for visitors. It's chilly inside because Distomo doesn't have money for heat, and voices echo. Near the entrance, there's a portrait of a distraught young woman whose family was murdered.

Contrasting styles happily converge at Elizabeth Moss
Deborah Randall rather backed into painting Maine landscapes. She had been making content-oriented contemporary paintings with wildly varied subjects, but her ability to paint was strong, and a trip to Italy forced her not only to look at the landscape but see it in terms of painting.
After the trip, Randall continued working in both modes, and the landscapes became not only something she could do but a way of working that put the paint first rather than external ideas she would loan to herself now and again.
This transformation in approach is something that often marks the transition to being a mature artist. At first, it's the struggle with the ideas that drives the artist to paint. Then the artist achieves a sort of fluency and begins thinking in the terms of the art so the ideas don't require any sort of literal translation.Silicone Mold Making Rubber, In other words, the work becomes less about sense than sensibility.
"On the Horizon" at Elizabeth Moss Galleries in Falmouth features Randall's moody landscapes with aggressive skies. She has made the rhythm and energy of her brushstroke into the most obvious and powerful component of her paintings.
This leads to many poignant effects, including a clear sense of urgency from her staccato strokes. Sometimes this can come across as hurried, but when it's handled well, it exudes deftly excited energy. The quickness of the execution validates the viewers' experience of the ephemeral unity of the painting: The image feels like a moment in a certain place rather than something broader, more complex or fractured.
"Sunset Over Little River" might be Randall at her best. The almost-square 4-foot canvas is about two-thirds sky over a bend in the river. The palette is 19th-century French with its sap greens, creamy yellows and rich, earthy reds. I particularly like its substantial cloud action. While it's that familiar puff-dotted August sky that makes so many of us fall in love with Maine, Randall's palette combines with her almost frantically muscular rhythms to make an unusually bold -- even masculine -- painting.
It might sound strange to talk about clouds of purple, red, brown and black,All RUBBER MATS is comprised of all types of mats, but the scheme works perfectly when backed with Naples yellow, soft pinks and light sky azures.
Randall's knife work is strong, and she uses it particularly well in the foreground bands of landscape. She struggles, however, when shapes are allowed to take formal supremacy over the rhythms of the strokes.

Some three years on, with the early 1990s recession beginning to bite, my editor called me into his office. “I’ve heard there are serious problems with David Murray’s property interests. I’m telling you all this because it illustrates how the events of recent days – plunging one half of the Old Firm into ignominious administration and threatening its very existence in its present form – have been incubating for a very long time indeed. Craig Whyte will have to account for his stewardship of Rangers since last May. What happened to the Ticketus millions? Why, since last May, 9m in taxes wasn’t remitted to HMRC but used to pay for club operating costs instead?
However the idea that the way to run a sustainable football club is to pay whatever it takes to buy success on the field, leverage the business as high as the highest tier in the stands and trust that the bank will still be standing right behind you if it all goes wrong was already there, in Rangers’ case, the day David Murray did that deal nearly a quarter of a century ago.
This whole saga also exposes some of the malign forces and the crony relationships that led us to the great banking crash of 2008 and the protracted slump that has followed.
In the boom years we had bankers who thought they were entrepreneurs. And entrepreneurs who thought the special relationships they built up with individual bankers would see them through the ups and downs of the economic cycle, no matter how much they owed.

Even the fiercest critics of President Barack Obama have to honestly ask themselves one simple question: Do you really think, deep down in your heart, Obama will lose in November?

A recent CNN poll shows that Obama is beating all of his possible Republican rivals in hypothetical GOP match-ups. Obama leads Mitt Romney 51% to 46%, tops Rick Santorum 52% to 45%, beats Paul, 52% to 45%, and crushes Newt Gingrich (why is he still in the race, btw?) 55% to 42%.
A Fox News poll of key battleground states — Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin — shows the same: Obama leads Romney, 47% to 39%, tops Santorum, 48% to 38%, beats Paul 48% to 37% and crushes Gingrich, 52% to 32% (L Republicans).
Obama raised $11.8 million for his campaign in January,MDC Mould specialized of Injection moulds, according to FEC filings released Friday. This total is less than a third of the $36.8 million he raised during the same month four years ago. He remains the top fundraiser in the presidential race.
What’s better for Obama is the complete political disunity in the Republican Party. The race has boiled down to Romney against any-flavor-of-the-month of anti-Romney. The Wall Street Journal argues that the GOP primary will run into May or June (George W. Disunity, unfortunately, is the one intangible piece in this puzzle. If Republicans were more unified in their battle to unseat one of the most unpopular presidents in modern history, then they could have a true fighting chance. But for a party that is facing an identity crisis — filled with the juxtaposition of evangelical conservatives, Tea Partiers, libertarians, neocons, and moderates —“unity” in itself will be a “grueling” process.
But unity will be the only way forward for Republicans, and if the GOP hopes to take back the White House, then they should realize that the answer to all of their woes lies in uniting Ron Paul and his supporters with the wider party.
Paul is the biggest chance the GOP has to win the presidency in 2012. His brand of conservatism is progressive enough to draw in key voting blocs and his immense grass roots base is fervent enough to challenge the “hope and change-ers” that propelled Obama to the presidency in 2008. Unfortunately, though, Paul will never be the Republican presidential nominee. He’s a fringe candidate. As such, the eventual GOP candidate must pick Paul as their running mate.
Paul would draw in massively critical demographics. He is the quintessential Tea Partier (check). Young people love him and are hugely inspired by him (check).Overview description of rapid Tooling processes. Progressives and liberals can easily jump on the Paul bandwagon (um, super check). Military folks overwhelmingly love him (check).
The only comparable Republican who could possibly fit this mold would be Tea Party Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), but he has neither the grassroots followers nor political résumé to be a viable threat on the GOP ticket.
Continue on this mental field trip with me.
Paired with a more mainstream conservative like Mitt Romney, the GOP ticket would truly be able to call itself “electable.” Imagine the one-two punch a Romney-Paul ticket could provide: Romney’s money machine juggernaut could compete with Obama and the Democrats’ Super PACS, while Paul would rain down a storm of philosophical and policy counterpoints that would unhinge Obama’s own policy platform.
In an age of austerity and military pull-back, Paul’s ideals would trump Obama in the eyes of the average voter. In this Super PAC election cycle, Romney’s money would drown the Democrats.
There’s still the unity question. It seems any libertarian or Paulite doesn’t comprehend that Paul is running, in fact, as a Republican — under the same banner as other notable politicians including George W.All RUBBER MATS is comprised of all types of mats, Bush,Silicone Mold Making Rubber, Sarah Palin, and Ronald Reagan, all of which I would contend libertarians don’t relate to. But unity will be the only way forward for Republicans, and if the GOP hopes to take back the White House, then they should realize that the answer to all of their woes lies in uniting Ron Paul and his supporters with the wider party.
Paul is the biggest chance the GOP has to win the presidency in 2012. His brand of conservatism is progressive enough to draw in key voting blocs and his immense grass roots base is fervent enough to challenge the “hope and change-ers” that propelled Obama to the presidency in 2008. Unfortunately, though, Paul will never be the Republican presidential nominee. He’s a fringe candidate. As such, the eventual GOP candidate must pick Paul as their running mate.
Paul would draw in massively critical demographics. He is the quintessential Tea Partier (check). Young people love him and are hugely inspired by him (check).Overview description of rapid Tooling processes. Progressives and liberals can easily jump on the Paul bandwagon (um, super check). Military folks overwhelmingly love him (check).
The only comparable Republican who could possibly fit this mold would be Tea Party Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), but he has neither the grassroots followers nor political résumé to be a viable threat on the GOP ticket.

Paired with a more mainstream conservative like Mitt Romney, the GOP ticket would truly be able to call itself “electable.” Imagine the one-two punch a Romney-Paul ticket could provide: Romney’s money machine juggernaut could compete with Obama and the Democrats’ Super PACS, while Paul would rain down a storm of philosophical and policy counterpoints that would unhinge Obama’s own policy platform.
In an age of austerity and military pull-back, Paul’s ideals would trump Obama in the eyes of the average voter. In this Super PAC election cycle, Romney’s money would drown the Democrats.
There’s still the unity question. Still, I think there’s something there, something that the Republicans should consider tapping into if they hope to have a realistic chance at the presidency.
Paul could prove to be the iconic image of the 2012 election, especially in a time when many voters are looking for such a political savior.
