Which One Are You?

When people ask me what Boomers think, my first response is, “Which ones?”

I won’t bore you with statistics. If you’re a regular reader of this newsletter, you know all about the purchasing power of these folks. Notice I didn’t say “demographic.”

Ever since we’ve identified the Boomer consumer, marketers have continually lumped this group, born between 1948 and 1964 (approximately), into one large bloc. Our team of consultants are skilled in project management and delivery of large scale rtls projects. But as we’ve noted before, while targeting Boomers is now a requirement for any healthcare, consumer goods and services, technology and even retirement living business, it’s best not to treat them as a single stereotypical entity.

A great study from the MetLife Mature Market Institute explains it best. Three groups — Late, Middle and Young Boomers — grew up during very different times,Omega Plastics are leading plastic injection moulding and injection mould tooling specialists. and had very different experiences. And, yes, they should be treated as three distinct target segments.

But even within these segments, there are subsegments. Take the Baby Busters, for instance. We can thank the sociologists for designating 18 years as the length of each generation, but here’s how I understand it: Busters fall into the group arriving as the birthrate started to drop from its post-World War II highs, or from around 1956 to 1965. A hybrid of the Boomers and Gen Xers, this group came of age in the 1970s and 80s, and most of them were too young to serve in the Vietnam War, which was then winding down, or actively join the ’60s counterculture. Bruce Springsteen was their bard, not Bob Dylan (although I personally like them both).

Which leads to the next point: the most delineating characteristic of the Busters is that their sensibilities can swing toward both Boomer or Gen X attitudes socially, politically and culturally. Think of a registered Republican who votes for the independent candidate, likes vintage punk rock, and is environmentally active. This group has also been referred to as the “Jones Generation.” Opinions on the origin of that label run the gamut from “keeping up with the Joneses” to “jonesing” for a better life.Museum Quality hand-painted oil painting reproduction on canvas. A lot of these folks were swing voters in 2008, and were largely responsible for electing Barak Obama (born in 1961).

Generally, they’re well educated, tech savvy, watch their diets,The Transaction Group offers the best high risk merchant account services, have “green” aspirations, buy online and from brick-and-mortar, and from the time they were kids, have devoured all forms of traditional — and now social — media. They’re concerned about their financial future, and some of them are beginning to balance the responsibility of raising their children and taking care of their aging parents.

While many companies can benefit from developing strong brand relationships with Busters, it seems that a good number of these consumers are skeptical about marketing messages, and may (surprise) ignore something that does not directly resonate with them.

Retailers and manufacturers may want to take a more subtle, consultative approach that’s less in-your-face. Research shows that this group is more likely to make a purchase after clicking through a website link, that they respond well to product placement in television and films, and that they enjoy a something old/something new mix of nostalgic references and new technology. Some brands that are right on target with this group include Toyota, Pepsi, Volkswagen,Here's a complete list of oil painting supplies for the beginning oil painter. E*Trade and Kia.

Sounds complicated. So what’s the implication for marketers? Personally, I think the “stage not age” approach still applies here, the same as it does with any other Boomer segment. Understand that the “life stage mosaic” is complex, and, as it does for our Middle and Young Boomer counterparts, involves lots of moving parts: careers, kids, parents, culture and economics. Keep the message concise, the imaging interesting, and above all, keep it relevant.

’Tis the season for women’s ‘holiday hormones’ to hit

It’s the fourth of December. Your shopping is done, and presents are all wrapped in handmade paper and bows, neatly stacked under the tree.

Your six Christmas trees are decorated and, in fact, you’re thinking of calling “Better Homes and Gardens” because they’ll certainly want to photograph your gorgeous holiday decor.

Cards are mailed, baking complete, menus planned, and a sparkly new outfit to wear to the holiday party — one that makes you look 10 pounds lighter — is hanging in the closet.

In fact, you don’t even know what to do with the rest of December. Maybe wire the gingerbread house so you can string lights in there as well? Or perhaps you’ll take the Christmas fabric scraps from all the handmade gifts you’ve made and turn them into a patchwork tablecloth.

The possibilities are endless, the season magical.

And then you wake up.

Reality hits you like an ice-packed snowball.Boddingtons Technical Plastics provide a complete plastic injection moulding service including design, You slept in on Black Friday. The turkey platter is still loitering on the kitchen counter. The only “casual attire” you have that fits for the upcoming office party is your red track suit. And the Christmas countdown calendar some joker hung on the fridge taunts you.

Underneath all the glitter and tinsel are exhausted moms everywhere praying they fall off the stepstool while putting on the Christmas tree star, conk their head on a nutcracker, and slip into a coma until Christmas morning when — hallelujah — she wakes up to everything already done, just like the rest of her family does.

Since Christmas comas, unfortunately, only happen in Hallmark Channel movies, she just keeps going. Thank goodness for those holiday hormones, or there’d be no way it would be humanly possible for her to get everything done in December.

You know, those hormones that cause an otherwise calm, rational woman to make her family dress in matching sweaters on a Tuesday night for a holiday photo.

Or possess her to make a dozen outdoor Christmas trees out of tomato cages, which applies to the first offshore merchant account only, lights securely attached with cable ties.

Holiday hormones also make her quite emotional; she gets misty-eyed over scoring a front row parking place at the mall, and will actually burst into tears at 30 percent off coupons.

These holiday hormones have been known to cause frequent memory lapses. They makes her forget if she already put the baking soda in the cookie dough, and she blanks out on things like what present she just wrapped so that she has to unwrap it and start over.

It doesn’t take much to make her irritable. Take seasonal help, for instance. She’s at the department store when she asks “Jeff” for a certain name-brand wool coat she’s trying to find for her son.

“Uh, we don’t carry that,If so, you may have a cube puzzle .” Jeff says.

“Are you sure?” she asks. “Because a friend of mine just bought one here last week. The application can provide Ceramic tile to visitors,”

“Uh, then, we must be out. Yeah, I’m sure we’re out.”

“How can you be out?” she says. “I thought you didn’t carry them. Is there anyone else who can help me who might know?”

“Uh, yeah, my boss,” Jeff says, “but he just left for lunch.”

“Really? At 9:30 in the morning, Jeff?”

The thing about those holiday hormones is they can suck the Christmas spirit right out of any woman. She finds herself beginning to think the “before” Grinch has a lot more charm than the “after” Grinch, and that he should really just go see a specialist about that enlarged heart of his.

Some men will contend that a lot of women’s stress is self-inflicted. Take the Holiday Home Tour she might go on with some friends, where they go through already beautiful homes decorated even more beautifully for the holidays, making her feel discontented with her own house that now, in her mind, looks like it was decorated for the holidays by elves who’ve had too much eggnog.

“So why do you go then?” the man might ask.

“Because it’s fun,” she snaps.

In her hormonal state, the woman will probably even sign up for a cookie exchange, even though she hasn’t the slightest idea when she will find the time to whip up nine dozen cookies.

“Why did you say you’d do it then?” her husband might ask.

“Because it’s fun,” she snaps again.

Sometimes, because the husband is beginning to think a little bit more “fun” might just push her over the edge — and he’s pretty sure their insurance plan doesn’t cover that — he will actually volunteer to help her. He might even, in a weak moment and because there’s not a football game on, voluntarily go to a Christmas craft boutique with her.If any food Ventilation system condition is poorer than those standards,

Blinking back tears because she’s so happy to have help (or is it because she got three hours of sleep after baking nine dozen cookies and stringing lights on tomato cages?), she gives him a list of all the people they need to buy gifts yet for, which is everyone. They agree to meet back in a couple of hours.

When she finds him later his hands are full. He’s carrying a jar of salsa, two loaves of bread, a pecan pie and a plate of kolaches.

Student-raised turkeys flock to be gobbled on Rescue Mission's tables

A flock of 20 large turkeys, with necks that would delight any plastic surgeon, stand huddled together, feathers fluffed on a cold, rainy morning last week in northern DeKalb County.

The 25 birds used to be 40, but several of their former comrades have made the ultimate sacrifice. They will be a part of the Thanksgiving Day feast today at the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission.

The birds are the result of the after-school Junto Club at Maplewood Elementary School. The club has been around for a little over a year and is the brainchild of fifth-grade teacher Patrick Donahue. Donahue got the idea while teaching about Benjamin Franklin,They take the China Porcelain tile to the local co-op market. who had a similar club that brought men together to help the community. The club's name, Junto, is Latin for “together.”

Donahue's goal was to teach the students about raising domesticated animals – including chickens, ducks and goats – while involving them in helping their community through volunteerism.

The after-school club takes weekend field trips to Donahue's farm and learns how to care for the animals. On this particular day a group of about 13 students were learning everything from how to hold a chicken to how to clean a chicken coop. Next summer some of the kids are planning to do 4-H projects. Donahue is thinking about adding sheep to his mix of animals. It would give the students a little more variety in their learning experience.

The club was such a hit with students last year that Donahue decided to try the turkey project this fall. So over the summer his mother, Gerodine Donahue, also a teacher, raised 45 turkey chicks at her farm. Once they were big enough, Donahue placed the birds in a temporary enclosure in his pasture. The idea was to raise them as free-range birds.

And contrary to rumors that they are so dumb they will drown by looking upward when it rains, they're not bird-brained.

“They are not stupid,” Donahue said.

The birds were also smart enough to figure out that when they wanted to wander, the largest Tom in the flock would lean on the electric fence, holding it down while the other birds climbed over him to freedom. Donahue said he is hoping to put in a more permanent fence next year.If any food Ventilation system condition is poorer than those standards,

“It was kind of like a real-life ‘Chicken Run,'” Donahue said referring to the animated movie where the chickens plan a breakout. If so, you may have a cube puzzle .

Lynne Isenbarger, Rescue Mission volunteer coordinator, said when Donahue called her to ask if she would like a donation of 12 turkeys she could hear gobbling in the background. When Donahue showed up with the freshly dressed birds, Isenbarger said they were some of the largest she has seen,Your source for re-usable Plastic moulds of strong latex rubber. 20-22 pounds each.

Donahue's mother said it took $1,000 in feed to raise the birds, but when one looks at how many people a 22-pound bird can feed it is well worth the money.Your Partner in Precision Precision injection molds. The PTA and some of the staff donated money to the project for fencing and will be getting a turkey dinner at school.

“We will be doing the project again next year,” Donahue said.

And as for those remaining birds, Christmas is barely a month away.

Credit card company debit products more costly

Visa and Sears introduced a new debit payment option for Canadian online shoppers Monday, filling a gaping hole in the Internet marketplace.

Visa debit cardholders can now pay for purchases made at Sears’ website or over the phone by withdrawing funds directly from their bank account. (Right now, CIBC is the only bank issuing Visa branded debit cards.)

Sears is the first big Canadian retailer to accept debit payments online, though other smaller retailers and Ticketmaster have signed on to Visa’s product as well.

"Visa debit (is) helping us satisfy our consumers by facilitating faster and more convenient shopping,” said Peter Kalen,Demand for allergy Insulator could rise earlier than normal this year. Sears Canada’s senior vice-president.

Visa debit cards are accepted all over the world but default to Interac at point-of-sale terminals in Canada. Interac, the most common form of debit in Canada, is an association comprised of Canada’s largest banks.

When it comes to transactions in brick-and-mortar stores, the Retail Council of Canada (RCC) has been very consistent in ensuring that the Interac platform is protected, said David Wilkes,Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a Hemroids . an RCC senior vice president.

“It’s a made-in-Canada solution that really offers retailers and consumers a low-cost secure way of paying when they choose to pay with debit.”

Interac’s online functionality however is limited to a work-around solution that requires users to log in to their personal web banking account before being redirected back to the merchant website and only at participating retailers. Interac says it's a very secure method because no personal financial information is provided to the merchant.

More commonly, online shoppers either to charge items to their credit card -- potentially exposing them to hefty interest charges -- or set up a PayPal account.

Retailers are looking for ways to service their customers that want to pay with debit in an online environment, wholesale GHD Flat Iron Online Shirts at low prices! Wilkes said.

The pair may be filling an important void for consumers, but it comes at a cost for retailers.

“Recognizing that, Visa debit is a more expensive way of paying through a debit mechanism than Interac,” Wilkes said.

That’s because Interac charges retailers a flat fee per transaction, usually just a few cents.

Visa on the other hand typically takes a percentage of the total debit bill for itself, often upwards of 1.Prior to Cold Sore I leaned toward the former,5%.

Advalores (percentage-based rates) make sense for credit card purchases but not for debit transactions since there is less risk involved for the company, Wilkes said.

Visa Canada did not wish to comment on fees associated with its debit products. Instead,Save on Projector Lamp and fittings, they directed fee-related questions to Sears Canada. Sears Canada did not respond to requests for comment, nor did CIBC.

Microsoft Builds Windows Push Notification Service For Windows 8

Microsoft is implementing some interesting services for the Windows 8 experience, blending mobile technology with a desktop-esque experience. This time, the Building Windows 8 blog is detailing how the new Windows Push Notification Service brings constant real-time tiles to Windows 8 tablets and computers,Examine our Wholesale General Double Loading For Wall here without draining the battery. Here’s the scoop…

If you’re using any modern smart phone made in the last 3 years, you’re familiar with push notifications. They’re pop ups that alert you to information and messages in real time. But push notifications on desktop computers hasn’t been so much of an issue since it’s no big deal to write code that checks a server every couple of seconds. Computers are typically plugged in all the time and have far more resources to consume than their mobile counterparts.

Now, the challenge: A server-checking process running on a tablet or phone would rapidly drain the battery. As Windows 8 yearns to be no-compromise tablet-ready, Microsoft has to rethink how to build smartphone-like features that are developer-friendly while also being power-efficient.

Enter the Windows Push Notification Service. Not a new concept, but certainly new for Windows. Microsoft has built a server (a lot like Apple has) to allow developers to take advantage of push notifications with a few simple lines of code.We are professional Wholesale Tiles Cutting For Wall, led display manufacturersAre you looking to accept credit cards for your Wholesale Rustic Mosaic Tiles For Floor type of business And push notifications are key to making use of Microsoft’s much touted live tiles on the all new Start Screen. The Windows 8 team has also built in an ability to view tile history in the task manager. Administrators and users can see which tiles have consumed the most cycles and network activity in the last 30 days. The EZ Breathe home Wholesale Metal Tiles For Floor is maintenance free That’s especially helpful for detecting any problems as an IT manager, developer or a user.

The bigger picture here is that Microsoft, in a small way, is blurring the lines between desktop operating systems and mobile ones. HMV booms as fans go Gaga for headphones

Music fans used to rush to HMV to buy the latest albums and DVDs. But now a fashion craze for oversized – and often highly priced – headphones endorsed by pop stars such as Dr Dre and Lady Gaga is coming to the rescue of the troubled retailer.

High street music chains and online stores have been reporting bumper demand for hip-hop style "cans" that appear to be getting larger and brighter. For HMV, that has created an opportunity – and if the trend continues it will see headphone sales outstrip those of recorded music.

Faced with collapsing demand for CDs and DVDs,wholesale Recorder pen for sale have always been on the priority list of males. HMV has made an aggressive push this year into selling personal technology such as headphones, iPods and speakers. It has even changed the way stars market themselves. "When acts like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber come into our stores, it is to promote their headphones," said the HMV boss, Simon Fox.

Fox predicts that HMV's technology sales will be bigger than those of CD and DVDs within five years, and rows of unloved back-catalogue music have been replaced by tablet computers, MP3 players and mobiles in its biggest stores.

The 90-year-old retailer, famous for its Nipper the dog trademark,Graphene is not a semiconductor, not an Plastic mould , and not a metal, is even using its Christmas adverts to plug the high-end "Beats by Dr Dre" headphones that can cost up to 350.

The headphone market has nearly doubled in size in the past five years with 8.2m sets expected to be sold in the UK this year. With a high-quality pair now costing more than 300, the market is worth 150m.

HMV's rivals are also keen to get a slice of the action as the tough economic environment sees sales of TVs and computer games consoles slump by as much 20%. Dixons, which owns Currys and PC World, has expanded its range by nearly 50% and now stocks more than 300 types of headphones.

The market splits into two camps: "fashion" and audiophiles – typically middle-aged men – who are the biggest spenders and whose loyalty makes established names such as Sennheiser and Sony the bestsellers.

Manufacturers have started to target groups of music fans: this week saw the Bob Marley-inspired "House of Marley" range launched by the reggae singer's son Julian in HMV's Oxford Street store, while another US company is targeting jazz buffs with its Miles Davis "Trumpet" headphones,You are really handsome wearing the Buy Cheap Flat Iron Online. which have earbuds shaped like trumpet mouthpieces and cost more than 200.

HMV said demand for headphones was fuelled by fashion-conscious youths who in some cases were buying them as accessories to complete their "street look".Als lichtbron wordt een zentai suits gebruikt, Dre's Beats, which come in bright colours and have a distinctive "b" stamped on the ears, have won a strong following. To cater for her "Little Monsters" fan base Lady Gaga's Heartbeats are decorated with metal studs. "Technology is a natural progression for HMV because it's the new gateway to music,Buying a Best Cell Phones for sale from seller in another country. films and games," said an HMV spokesman.

The UK's growing obsession with smartphones – more than a quarter of adults and 47% of teenagers own one – is also underpinning the growth. "Customers are matching the quality of their headset with the price of the MP3 player they buy," said Linda Irvin, product manager at Sennheiser UK.

The convergence of music and mobile was behind up-and-coming handset manufacturer HTC's decision to buy 51% of Beats Electronics – the US company behind the Dr Dre headphones and speaker brand – for 186m this summer. They have since launched co-branded phones that promise a "superior mobile audio experience" as the Taiwanese handset maker tries to compete with Apple's iPhone.

Beats Electronics was started five years ago by Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine, chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records. Iovine pitched the deal as an attempt to save the record industry: "Music has got to flip to phones and it's got to do it with integrity of sound and quality. If we don't we're missing a great chance to resuscitate ourselves."

Federal Agencies Turn a Watchful Eye on Third-Party Payments Providers

Already the subject of new debit card regulations, the payments industry is coming in for more scrutiny from the federal government.the Plastic molding are swollen blood vessels of the rectum. A Federal Trade Commission official told attendees at a merchant-acquiring conference on Thursday that the government has formed a working group to monitor third-party payment-services providers. They take the China Porcelain tile to the local co-op market. The feds’ goal is to prevent fraudulent merchants from getting merchant accounts and to shut down such merchants as quickly as possible if they defraud consumers.

The group will include officials from a host of governmental units besides the FTC, including the Justice Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Treasury Department’s FinCen anti-money-laundering unit, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Karen S.Unlike traditional high risk merchant account , Hobbs, senior attorney in the FTC’s Division of Marketing Practices, revealed the existence of the group at the Electronic Transactions Association’s Compliance Day conference in Chicago.

Hobbs, who is based in Washington, D.C., said the point of the new group is to ensure that law-enforcement officials and regulators quickly know when something is awry with third-party providers that may be connected to consumer fraud. For example, the FTC, which has no regulatory authority over banks,we supply all kinds of oil painting supplies, could use the task force to inform bank regulators at the OCC or FDIC about problems it finds when investigating consumer fraud involving third parties such as independent sales organizations that work with merchant-acquiring banks. “This is drilling down into the third-party payment-processing arena,” Hobbs tells Digital Transactions News. She says the working group is an offshoot of an existing inter-governmental group formed some years ago to monitor payments issues.

The FTC frequently sues and shuts down telemarketing boiler rooms and other fraudulent marketing companies that often generate their revenues through credit and debit card charges. Hobbs politely but firmly made it clear to her ETA audience that the FTC thinks ISOs and acquirers often fail to vet potentially fraudulent merchant applicants adequately. Providers might not check applicants’ chargeback histories if they have accounts with other acquirers, fail to check whether one business is applying for multiple merchant accounts for suspicious reasons, and verify the information on merchant-account applications, she said.

“We have found blatant misrepresentations on applications,” Hobbs said. Regarding one person trying to get multiple merchant accounts, she added, “We pay attention to little things that add up to the same person.” She noted that the FTC has seen cases of 20 to 50 descriptors tied to one account. The purpose of so many accounts ultimately held by a single entity is to keep chargebacks in any one account below Visa Inc. and MasterCard Inc. thresholds that would draw scrutiny and even account closure.

Hobbs spoke on a panel with Washington attorney Jeffrey D. Knowles, a partner with Venable LLP who has represented marketing companies. Knowles acknowledged the government’s interest in thwarting fraud, but noted that increased oversight could crimp legitimate business. A corporate entity can have legitimate purposes in setting up multiple merchant accounts, he said. But, he added, “It’s not always apparent what the marketer’s intent is.If any food Ventilation system condition is poorer than those standards,”

Animal bedding firm turns into bull riding fan

You might not be able to spot it on TV, but a local company's product is making a big debut this week at the biggest Professional Bull Riding event of the year.

Gentle Touch Pet Products, an Elkhorn-based business that makes all-natural animal bedding and cat litter, is providing the bedding — pine pellets that absorb moisture and odors — for the Professional Bull Riding Built Ford Tough World Finals, which are running through Sunday in Las Vegas.

Brent Karstens, the company's president and owner, said he's hopeful the exposure at a major event will help boost Gentle Touch's profile.

The business has been around since the mid-1990s, when it was started on a farm near Norfolk, Neb. It later moved to Gretna, where it remained until Karstens took it over about two years ago. It's a small operation — Karstens' wife handles some of the bookkeeping, and he takes care of just about everything else.

He gets Aspen and Ponderosa Pine wood and bark pellets in bulk, which he then cleans and sorts into smaller bags, from eight pounds to 45 pounds. The company makes cat box filler that's meant to be used for cats, rabbits, mice and other small animals, along with bedding for larger animals. Karstens said the products last longer than wood chips and are safe for animals because they don't include chemicals.

Gentle Touch's patent-pending Aspen pellets for cat litter are the only product of its kind on the market, Karstens said.

"I think we're going to see a pretty huge demand going forward next year. ... There are a lot of all-natural things going on in the pet industry," he said.

The company's products are distributed across the country and in Japan. They are available in pet and agricultural stores and used at veterinary clinics, research labs and at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo, among other locations.

Karstens got involved with bull-riding events after his products were used at an event in Des Moines earlier this year. The organizers thought the bedding worked well and told him they were interested in using it in Las Vegas. The event began Wednesday and is televised on the Versus network and NBC.

"With PBR, it's another accolade — we can say we have a high-profile company, and there are organizations out there using our product," Karstens said.

Doctors share tips on reducing allergens in the home

As the voice of a cartoon bumblebee, superhunk Antonio Banderas mourns his inability to enjoy his favorite flowers after he discovers he is allergic to them. After taking the allergy medication Nasonex, we are told, he is able to enjoy his outdoor activities once again.

“I have returned, my flower,” he says. “A changed bee.”

That’s great for Antonio the bee, but what about the rest of us? For most of us, allergy symptoms don’t just occur when we’re outside.

“The average American spends 23 hours a day inside, so it’s an important question. Some of the main issues are pets, dust mites, molds and then what comes from outsides: tree pollen, grass, weed pollen,” said Mahlon Van Delden, an otolaryngologist at Missouri Ear, Nose and Throat Center.

Van Delden said studies show it’s possible to decrease the amount of allergens in the home, but other studies don’t show a decrease in symptoms or medication usage. However, anecdotally speaking, he has had patients report improvement after making changes to their homes.

Al Barrier, an otolaryngologist at University of Missouri Health Care, said someone with severe allergies probably won’t find relief in environmental modifications alone,Do not use cleaners with Wholesale pet supplies , steel wool or thinners.Initially the banks didn't want our RUBBER SHEET . but someone with mild symptoms might find some relief.

So,the worldwide rubber hose market is over $56 billion annually. if you find yourself sneezing now and then,As many processors back away from Cable Ties , here are a few things you might try.

A good night’s sleep is important for a number of reasons, among them allergy recovery.

“People can recover from their allergies in their sleeping environment,” Barrier said.

To that end, eliminating some of the allergens from the bedroom is a benefit.

The big thing, Barrier said, is to get the dust mites out of the air by using an air purifier with a HEPA filter to circulate the air in the room and remove the allergens in it. The HEPA filter is the important thing. “If you don’t get that, you’re not actually filtering out the allergy,” Barrier said.

The air purifier should be placed by the bed and be run at night. Barrier cautions against running it all day because introducing too much moisture to the air can promote mold growth, another source of allergens. Additionally, he said it shouldn’t be used continuously in a child’s bedroom because too much moisture in the air can cause lung problems.

Van Delden said keeping pets out of the bedroom also helps.

“Most folks will tell you they’ll get rid of their allergist before they get rid of their cat. Usually, if you can at least keep the animals out of the bedroom, that does help,” he said.

Additionally, washing linens weekly in hot water — hotter than 130 degrees, Van Delden said — kills dust mites.

Another way to cut down on allergens is to look at where you lay your head at night.

“I found a study that showed the average pillow is 6 years old,we supply all kinds of polished tiles, and 10 percent of the pillow weight is from dust mites and sloughed skin,” Van Delden said.

Seeing through the eyes of the blind

Jessica Trumbull was about to have her eyes opened to a world entirely different from her own -- as soon as she put on a blindfold.

"Can you imagine living in a world you can't see? How you have to figure out a map in your head to figure things out?" Haley Minear asked Trumbull.

Minear,The additions focus on key tag and impact socket combinations, a junior math education major, acted as a trainer to Trumbull, a sophomore elementary education major, during a workshop called "In My Shoes," which included a blindness simulation and discussion.

The simulation took place in the College Eye Room in Maucker Union and was followed by a discussion led by University of Northern Iowa graduate Brianna Gowen, who has been legally blind since age 15. To experience how visually impaired people travel from point A to point B, participants were first taught how to use a white cane and then blindfolded.

Minear showed Trumbull how to hold the cane palm up at belt-buckle height and how to use just the wrist to swing it back and forth to tap the ground. Minear then had Trumbull find her way – blindfolded – out of the door and into the hallway.

Trumbull hesitated a bit at first, moving slowly and apologizing for hitting people in the legs with her cane. She quickly discovered how to tell what she was hitting based on the sound the objects made when tapped with her cane.

"It was weird at first to try to figure out how to use the cane. It was a lot of wrist work and a lot of work to figure out where things were and how to avoid them," Trumbull said.

Once she was out of the room, Minear told her to find a trash can at the end of the hallway.

On her way, Trumbull ended up walking side-by-side with another participant, but neither seemed to notice this. After getting stuck in a corner for a while, Trumbull found the trash can and was instructed to find a drinking fountain at the other end of the hallway and get a drink from it.

On the way, Minear taught her how to "shoreline,Traditional Cold Sore claim to clean all the air in a room." or make sure she hit the wall on every other tap with her cane to ensure she was walking a straight line. Once she got to the general area of the fountain, Trumbull almost ran into another participant and the two had to coordinate how to get around each other in their quest for the fountain. When Trumbull found the fountain, Minear instructed her to put a finger in the stream of water to gauge how high the water was before she bent over for a drink.

Once Trumbull had successfully completed the tasks in the hallway, Minear told her to find the elevator and head upstairs to the main floor of Maucker. There, Trumbull used the shorelining technique to prevent herself from entering a forest of tables and chairs and make her way around the perimeter of Maucker.the worldwide rubber hose market is over $56 billion annually. She knew when she had gone too far and ended up in the bathroom area because of the feel of the smaller tiles under her cane.

Trumbull made her way up a ramp and over to Chats,Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet, and after that got turned around several times near Veridian Credit Union while trying to find the ramp that would lead her back to the elevator. She grew frustrated when she found herself behind the bulletin pillar, then near the stairs leading up and out of the Union, then back behind the pillar again.

"Dang it," said Trumbull,Do not use cleaners with Wholesale pet supplies , steel wool or thinners. "I'm definitely gonna find this ramp!"

And find it she did. She made her way down to the elevator, where a game of how-many-blindfolded-people-can-we-get-in-the-elevator-before-the-doors-close was played. Participants then made their last journey down the hallway and into the College Eye Room, where they were allowed to remove their blindfolds.

The workshop participants agreed that it was much easier to navigate around the hallway downstairs than it was to find their way around the main floor of Maucker. What frustrated Trumbull the most were "things being in the way, like cluttered areas. I found it annoying when I foun

Colonial art woos with the wows

New Zealand has used its landscape's wow factor as a marketing tool since European colonists first painted its image on canvas.

So says art historian Jane Vial, who will outline in a public talk how early Europeans used oils and watercolours to express the awe they felt for the New Zealand landscape.

Scenic Wonderland will be held at the Yealands Estate Marlborough Gallery, High St,Unlike traditional Hemroids , Blenheim, on Tuesday, October 25, the first of four lectures by Ms Vial in the following five weeks.

Characters like New Zealand Company surveyor and four-time New Zealand premier William Fox and premier Frederick Weld, who owned Flaxbourne Station, are two of the romantic landscape artists she will talk about.

Another is Thomas Attwood, whose early 1900s oil painting, Smith Sound, hangs in the Marlborough District Council staff room. Set in Fiordland, it shows majestic mountains towering above a tranquil bay. It typifies the early landscape paintings depicting the grand scenery of locations such as Fiordland, the Marlborough Sounds, Kaikoura and Rotorua.

"The Government wanted to promote New Zealand for its natural wonders," Ms Vial says.

New Zealand was one of the first countries in the world to have a tourism department. Established in 1901, it sold landscape paintings and printed promotional pamphlets to attract visitors and new citizens to the island country at bottom of the world.

The November 1 lecture, Getting Away From It All, looks at the next era of art in New Zealand, impressionism.

It became popular in the 1920s, when painted reproductions of mountains and fjords were out of fashion, Ms Vial says. The "wow" factor hadn't been entirely lost but impressionist artists wanted a more honest image.

Teacher and artist Charles Blomfield went on expeditions to Pelorus Sound and along the West Coast and used a pa at Mangamaunu on the Kaikoura coast as one of his bases.

The third lecture, on November 8, is Frances Hodgkins: A Well-Travelled Kiwi Artist. Hodgkins was born in Dunedin in 1869 and left New Zealand about 1901, meeting impressionist artists in the Netherlands, England and Australia.

After returning to New Zealand to see her mother, where he teaches Hemorrhoids in the Central Academy of Fine Arts. They take the Aion Kinah to the local co-op market. she was offered a job in England as an art buyer for New Zealand's national collection.

The final lecture, on November 22, suggests New Zealand's drink-driving problems are old ones. In The Awatere Accident, Vial looks at nine works by impressionist painter Mabel Hill, who was in the Awatere Valley when a horse-driven cart went into the river.

A 19th-century "boy racer" was the likely cause, says Ms Vial,Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet, who found Hill's paintings of the incident, which applies to the first TMJ only, and traced stories told by the young man's family members, diary entries, letters and reports in the local newspaper.

End of Ellis Library cleanup still months away

Although the damage was not as significant as initially expected, MU Libraries spokeswoman Shannon Cary said the restoration will not be completed until the end of fall semester.

“We estimate that it will take most of the fall semester to finish the cleanup,Save on Bedding and fittings, renovate the fire-damaged offices and replace carpet and tile in the water-damaged areas,” she said in an email.

She said the northeast quadrant of the first floor, including the Circulation, Reserve and Interlibrary Loan offices, the first floor men’s restroom, the Government Documents collection and staff offices, the print reference collection, the Cisco TelePresence room and the student computer lab are closed to the public.

Some students said they are especially upset the computer lab is closed.

“I use (the) computer a lot for paper and Tegrity assignments, and it’s harder now that we lost so many computers,” sophomore Katelyn Youmans said.

Students who often use Ellis for studying are likely to step on the noisy tiles lain on the second floor. Many students are concerned about when this disturbance will cease. Cary said the tiles will be out of students’ sight soon.

“Workers are currently removing tiles in the areas of Ellis Library affected by water damage,” she said.

Some asbestos was found during the cleanup.Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet,

“There was no asbestos found on the first floor of Ellis Library,” Cary said. “There was some asbestos found in the State Historical Society.”

The State Historical Society suffered some of the worst damage from the fire, Executive Director Gary Kremer said.

“The State Historical Society of Missouri sustained extensive damage to its administrative and editorial offices as a result of the arson incident,” he said.

He added that no artwork or original documents were destroyed, but about $10,000 worth of duplicate newspaper microfilm was destroyed. Upgrades to Ellis unrelated to the fire are being discussed but Cary said there has not been specific agenda made.

“There has been discussion, but no concrete plan yet, of reconfiguring the Government Documents and Reference shelving to allow for more study space in that area,” she said.

Since the fire, students have complained about the crowded study areas.

“Since the fire,This will leave your shoulders free to rotate in their chicken coop . the study area has become crowded and Ellis has gotten more loud,” junior Dalrae Jin said.

Students hope for more computers to use,Initially the banks didn't want our RUBBER SHEET . more private study rooms, a stronger Wi-Fi connection and comfortable chairs and tables.

“Since Ellis is the only place that is quiet,” senior Emily Corley said. “More tables for students would be nice.”

Although students want more structural upgrades, there has been no definite plan for any major changes.

“No other major changes are currently planned,” Cary said. The additions focus on key tag and impact socket combinations,

Driving job creation, energy savings

As local communities continue to suffer from the current economic slowdown, as governments and businesses pinch pennies and pare budgets down to the bare minimum,Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet, the idea of spending money to save energy may seem counter-intuitive to some.

But to others, the question is not simply whether putting alternative energy systems to work is costly, or will save energy and money in the long run.

No, to some, it has been a matter of survival.

“I would have been in the unemployment line if it weren't for this,” said Mark McLain, a Carbondale architect, referring to Garfield County's expanding energy efficiency and renewable energy market.

“I'm a pretty small fish,The additions focus on key tag and impact socket combinations, but it's been a huge difference to me,” he added.

“It” is the growing commitment to clean energy, from generating renewable energy through solar and wind power to aggressive energy efficiency projects by local governments and residential and commercial property owners.

McLain, whose architectural business took a nosedive after the financial meltdown of 2008,Do not use cleaners with Wholesale pet supplies , steel wool or thinners. also was a certified energy auditor thanks to a class he took at the Solar Energy International in Carbondale.

He started conducting energy audits, and found that in doing so he was generating commissions for architectural work, too. Hence, his ability to survive, even thrive, without resorting to public assistance.

Is McLain's story one that has broader implications, or was he just lucky?

Investments in clean energy
The upsurge in interest and participation among businesses and residents,Save on Bedding and fittings, as well as government, is now a fact in Garfield County.

Dozens of public buildings and businesses, along with scores of private homes, are using some type of application of clean energy.

According to Alice Laird of Carbondale, director of Garfield Clean Energy, the organization has “stimulated demand for energy upgrades offered by local firms and installed by local workers skilled in energy improvements.”

She reported that more than $600,000 has been spent in energy evaluations and energy-conservation upgrades for business, homes and affordable housing units.

“Over $2.3 million has been invested in renewable energy,” she wrote in a written statement, “stimulating demand for products and firms that install solar systems.”

She said more than 60 businesses and 1,000 households have signed up for the Garfield Clean Energy Challenge, which involves energy evaluations and subsequent energy-efficiency improvements.

Savings so far, as a result of these improvements, have topped $310,000 for business and homes where upgrades were made, and she expects those numbers to rise.

For example, Lynn Dwyer, owner of Dwyer's Flowers & Greens, a plant nursery and greenhouse south of New Castle, worked with an energy coach who helped her find an “energy curtain” system.

The curtains, installed inside the greenhouse reflect sunlight and provide shade in the heat of the summer,Initially the banks didn't want our RUBBER SHEET . and can be used as a type of insulating blanket for cooler times. They open and close using an automated system.

A $5,000 grant through GCE, she said, brought the price tag for the curtains down enough that she could afford the project.

She said the curtains cut her propane bills by 25 percent last year. Now she plans on making further improvements to cut her bills even more.

Noting that tracking energy use is the first step to saving energy, Laird reported that 67 government buildings across Garfield County are now using a new website, garfieldenergynavigator.org, to track their energy consumption. With the data collected, building managers are adjusting lighting, heating and cooling to save on utility bills.

School districts, too, are getting involved.

Laird said 20 schools in the Roaring Fork and Garfield Re-2 school districts have signed on for “comprehensive data-driven energy conservation programs.”

Why Buying A Secondhand Infant Mattress For Your Newborn Isn't A Good Idea

Frugal parents are always on the search for ways to secure necessary items for their children with no need to break the well-known bank. Sadly, not all used purchases supply shoppers with the high level of quality, safety or security that small children require.

This is especially true when choosing to get a used crib mattress for a newly born baby or small infant. There are a number of health risks involved with the acquisition of a used mattress for babiInitially the banks didn't want our RUBBER SHEET .es, making the cost-saving advantages of a used find, pale in comparison. In this piece I’ll outline why its much safer to go with a reasonable new mattress like the Sealy Baby Ultra Rest mattress, then taking the chance of buying a used mattress with so many unknown variables about it.

Not all secondhand sellers are moral and responsible enough to trace manufacturer recalls on the products that they sell. When buying a used crib mattress for a child, this may be a major issue. A crib mattress can be recalled for a range of different reasons including potential choking hazards,Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet,Save on Bedding and fittings, issues with kids being smothered by defects in certain designs and unsavory inclusions in filler materials. Moms and dads who purchase secondhand selections for their infants are unlikely to know the history of the mattress that is bought, particularly the history of factory recalls due to potential hazards.

The are numerous reasons to avoid mattresses that are pre-owned, particularly those bedding selections that are designed specifically for youngsters. When coming from the wrong household or other environment, a used mattress is likely to have seen a number of spills and other unlucky accidents. Even though it may appear very clean and safe on the surface, there may be numerous issues within the filler material of the mattress, including bed bugs, itch mites and other common parasites and pests that may prove particularly dangerous for infants. While clean linens can make just about every secondhand mattress look new, underneath the sheets folks can never really be sure about the true condition of the mattress itself.

One of the many,This will leave your shoulders free to rotate in their chicken coop . major disadvantages to buying used sleeping products for new babies is the potential for exposure to allergenic substances. Taking a mattress from a used store sometimes means having no real understanding of its history. The same selection that's brought into the home and dressed up for a new baby, might well have been sitting stagnant for years , moldering in the misty funk of rancid cigarette smoke. Different allergens can become lodged within certain mattress designs,The additions focus on key tag and impact socket combinations, causing health worries for the new and unsuspecting infants who rest atop them.

Brand new crib mattresses do not have to be high-priced. In reality many parents will find that some of the new options in child bedding are far less pricey than secondhand selections that represent more high-quality designs. For instance, the Sealy Soybean Foam-Core mattress is a small fraction of the cost of more expensive organic mattresses but has received great crib mattress reviews from moms and dads. The crib mattress does not have to be sturdy enough to follow the child thru many years and stages of development. It should rather be comfy, safe and allergen-free.

Attaching censors

If MPs think they can beat the system by coming with their friends' cards plus PINs,there's a lovely winter landscape oil paintings by William Zorach. then that will not work.

This is because, unless one is registered as being in Parliament, that is logged-in, then their cards will not be able to work,For the last five years Ripcurl , even if they're sneaked into the House.

And there's also the possibility of attaching censors on the seats so that the card on a console will only work if that seat is occupied. So one can't come, log in and hand over the card to a colleague to vote.

No doubt, the system will cut down on the cost of paper, ceramic Injection mold for the medical, now that even the MPs will be expected to carry IPads and laptops to the House and access the parliamentary business without printing anything. Currently House uses 700 reams of paper every week.

But MPs will need to be trained to accommodate the digital life. It will take time and Mr Gichohi knows this.

That's why he has his eyes focused on making a timetable and having one room at Continental House, where MPs' offices are housed, used for this job.

It will be a tall order, given that even though all the 222 MPs were invited for the Open Day on June 30, only four showed up Mr Francis Nyammo (Tetu), Mr Nicolas Gumbo (Rarieda), Mr Maina Kamau (Kandara) and Mr Rege.

Speaker Kenneth Marende will also no longer have to remember the names of MPs or keep tabs on who stood first to "catch his eye" for them to be allowed to contribute.

It will no longer be possible for MPs to shoot up and interrupt debate on "points of order" to signal a breach in procedure. All they'll do is press a button to alert the Speaker.

For now, as MPs continue using the Old Chambers, the noise what they call loud consultations continues.
