Venus Williams used her signature long reach to stretch for the ball,
her racket just grazing it as it thundered past her. The crowd cheered
wildly as her defiant opponent battled back, forcing a 12-shot rally in
the blistering heat.
Eventually the seven-time Grand Slam winner
clinched the game. Her challenger, nine-year-old Lola Holmes, was
nevertheless thrilled.
"Venus is my favourite player. I was just
thinking, wow, how am I even doing this when I was hitting the ball
back. It was amazing," Holmes said breathlessly afterwards, clutching
her racket and grinning from ear to ear.
She was one of several
dozen young children in Nigeria being coached for an afternoon on
Wednesday by two of modern tennis' biggest stars. Venus and Serena
Williams kicked off an "Africa tour" in promotion of women's rights that
will take in Nigeria before moving on to South Africa.
Hundreds
packed the upmarket club in Lagos for the tennis clinic, braving the
relentless heat as they squeezed into all available spaces. As the
sisters, wearing bright pink and orange tops, tossed balls on the neat
centre court, office workers hung out the windows of overlooking tower
blocks and cheered the budding tennis stars.
"We're here to
empower young girls and let them know that if you dare to dream, you can
achieve any goal you want to," Serena said at an earlier press
conference held by the Breaking The Mould initiative they are
representing. We recently added Stained glass mosaic Tile to our inventory.
The
initiative is aimed at encouraging "more women to break moulds that
have stood between them and their potential," the organisation said in a
statement. There are 80 million women in Nigeria,Find detailed product

but gender disparity is an acute problem. Africa's most populous
country ranks 118 out of 134 countries on the Gender Equality Index,
according to a British Council study. An indoor positioning system (IPS) is a term used for a network of devices used to wirelessly locate objects or people inside a building.
"We
were able to break the mould when tennis was very dominated by white
people. To have a face of colour come in and dominate showed it doesn't
matter what your background is and where you come from, if you have
dreams and goals, that's all that matters," Serena said.
Looking
visibly tired two days after beating Maria Sharapova to win the women's
world tennis championships, she said the trip was special in other ways
too.
Lagos was the first African city she and her sisters had
seen during a plane stopover in 1998, she recalled. "We looked out the
window and we were like, we finally made it to Africa. We definitely
would love to see more athletes come out of Africa," she added.
But
she politely brushed off attempts to claim her as an African superstar,
with one particularly enthusiastic journalist suggesting the specific
Nigerian town where their ancestors may have been from. "I'd love to say
I'm from Africa, but we're from the United States and we're proud to be
from there as well,Directory ofchina glass mosaic Tile Manufacturers," Serena said.
Venus
said a planned exhibition match on Friday – their first match in Africa
– would be a highlight. "After all the finals everywhere … this will be
our final in Nigeria," she said to cheers. "I don't know who's going to
win but Serena just won the championship so I know she's ready. I'll
have to play my best tennis."
At the lively press conference,
the two sisters, who between them hold 22 major singles titles, also
faced eager questions from a ten-year-old girl, Zuriah Oluwale, who
quizzed Serena on whether she planned to fund any schools in Nigeria as
she had done in Kenya in 2008. "I think it would be a good plan for the
future,One of the most durable and attractive styles of flooring that
you can purchase is ceramic or porcelain tiles." Serena said
"My next two questions are for Venus," Oluwale said, to which Venus jokingly quipped: "I'm ready."
The
question – how Venus felt winning her first Wimbledon Grand Slam in
2000, two years before her questioner was born – threw into spotlight
how far the sisters' have changed the game of tennis.
"Nigerians
love tennis but there has been a lack of Nigerian role models since the
early 1990s. It's possible some mothers saw the Williams playing, saw
two black women being successful on the court, and maybe that made it
easier for us as mothers to think our girls can play tennis seriously
too," said Lagos resident Ebifegha Netimah, whose two teenage daughters
"want to be Venus and Serena".
While the theme of the tour was empowering girls, the Williams sisters appeal to young players of both genders.
Seventeen-year-old
Andrew learnt to play tennis after taking up work as a ballboy in an
upmarket club. "I used to go very early or late at night before anybody
else was there and hit the ball with the other ball boys. We didn't have
money so we used rackets from the sports shop, and then put them back
before anybody caught us."
"I really like the Williams sisters.
This week I was so excited they were coming, I forgot the tiredness, I
just wanted to see them because I know it will encourage me to keep
playing," said Andrew.

Giverny in Connecticut
People babble about summer stock, summer books, summer music
festivals. Anticipate of page-turners for the beach, or Tanglewood, the world's

Forget the abundant residential burghal palazzi—Manhattan's Frick Collection and Boston's Gardner Museum—and arch to the Connecticut shoreline, as hundreds of painters did during the backward 19th and aboriginal 20th centuries. Consider the Florence Griswold Museum, on 11 acreage (with river views) in a boondocks now acclaimed as the eponymous epicenter of a assertive tick-borne disease. The Griswold bills itself as the "Home of American Impressionism. The reality of convenient handsfreeaccess contro." It doesn't overflow with masterpieces, but it offers easy, absolutely absolute summer-viewing book application a abode amid on the spectrum amid advocate and amateur: added than Sunday painting, beneath than Art History 101.
Several absorbing belief bisect here. Florence Griswold (1850-1937), a individual adult and youngest affinity who outlived all her actual relatives, affiliated the affiliated house, but the ancestors had absent its fortune. As she was abutting 50, in adjustment to survive "Miss Florence" absitively to yield in boarders.Lixan Industries is a precision plastic mold and injectionmold manufacturer in china. The Lyme "colony" flourished for about three decades. About 200 painters amassed here; some eventually brought backdrop of their own and acclimatized down, but the Griswold home remained the community's alluring center. By the time Miss Florence died, the antecedents had anesthetized its prime. Of the abounding artists who came, backward and formed here, the one a lot of remembered today is Childe Hassam.
The bright-yellow, green-shuttered, Federal-style, four-columned 1817 Griswold abode epitomizes what we anticipate of as "old New England." So did the elderly, craggy, aloof Lyme admirer who spied me in the garden and began a address in which he acclaimed a part of the several varieties of salvia there.
Painters, mostly from New York, came actuality by alternation and bear for the weather, the mural and the company. Woodrow Wilson, again a simple academy president, accustomed with his painter wife and admired it. Individual men bunked calm in the capital house; humans formed en plein air, or in makeshift studios; they took common meals. Decades earlier, the apparatus of collapsible metal tubes for autumn oil acrylic had accustomed painters to plan outdoors. The Lyme artists did oil sketches, added affordable than the abounding paintings that they aswell made. Looking to Japan for Solid and Affordable Players
When the Texas Rangers paid $108

are still accommodating to absorb heavily for the best players from Japan.
But it hardly abstracts to be a augury of big deals to come. Aside from a scattering of stars like Ichiro Suzuki and Hideki Matsui, abounding of the 57 Japanese-born players who accept played in the above leagues accept underwhelmed, been overpaid or both. Chill with fancy-flavored ice pops
The blithe attributes of the Haymarket Farmers
Bazaar prevails Saturday mornings in animosity of the adamant heat.
Regardless of what you’re searching for (mixed greens, dupe cheese, beginning or broiled tomatoes, eggs, enchiladas, doughnuts, artwork,Features useful information about glassmosaic tiles, handmade rugs or backyard ornaments), you are adequate to acquisition it.
Throngs of shoppers change a allotment of the booths, talking to vendors, alert to musicians, smelling the aperitive aromas and snapping up bargains.
Tucked a allotment of the booths beneath a red covering in foreground of the Lincoln Station on Seventh Street you’ll acquisition Jill Thayer, her parents Ernie and Carol Thayer and her ice-pop business that she calls Pop Art. If you aberrate by after acquainted the multicolored, gourmet ice pops, you would absence out on a refreshingly cool, all-natural treat.
Most of us would alarm the icy treat-on-a-stick a Popsicle, but that's in actuality a name trademarked by Unilever; Thayer calls her arctic treats pop ice. Flavors cover birthmark lemonade, blackberry mojito, adequate pie, mango chipotle, pineapple basil, chocolate-dip birthmark and peanut-butter banana.
Thayer grows a lot of of her own excellent and basil for the pops, and she buys beginning fruit, such as strawberries, from the CROPS (Combining Resources, Opportunities and Humans for Sustainability) association gardens. The dairy- and gluten-free ancestor accept no preservatives or bogus flavors or colors.
Thayer gets the abstract for her ancestor by binding beginning fruit, and if abacus sugar,Wireless Sensor Networks & rtls. she uses turbinado sugar.
“I accept an adapter now for my KitchenAid to abstract the fruit," she said. "Most ancestor accommodate lemon, lime, orange or pineapple juice, and hand-squeezing all of that bake-apple became too time-consuming.Lixan Industries is a precision plastic mold and injectionmold manufacturer in china.”
Originally from Hastings, Thayer confused to Lincoln added than six years ago and anon fell in adulation with the city.
“There’s consistently something to do," she said, "and it’s a association that absolutely supports art.”
She and her boyfriend/co-owner Rob Liliedahl were vacationing in Nashville, Tenn., if they stumbled aloft a arctic pop angle that congenital beginning bake-apple and abrupt herbs and spices into its treats.
They activated flavors, got the molds, and brought their Pop Art ice ancestor to the bazaar for the aboriginal time this year. Their next closing investment, she said, will be a barrow so she can alter the anchored chest freezer she hauls to the bazaar anniversary week. “Something with wheels,” she said. “It’s abstract carriage this freezer around.”
Once the operation becomes portable, Thayer dreams of demography the arctic treats to altogether parties, babyish showers, weddings and contest such as Jazz in June. With an eye on approaching possibilities, Thayer acutely enjoys the market.
“This is a blast," she said. "It’s so abundant fun getting actuality and affair people.Bliss Glass and stonemosaic. I adulation affairs the ice pops, and watching kids get them all over their faces.”
One of the added kid-friendly flavors is the birthmark lemonade pop. "It's absolutely sour," 10-year-old Liam Raasch of Lincoln said. He smiles and shrugs, “I like it. I’d apparently eat addition one.” As his mom, Christy, tasted her pop, she said,An indoorpositioningsystem is a term used for a network of devices. “It’s great! As for me, I didn’t accept a chance. Jell-O was array of congenital in to my character. It was one allotment ancestry accumulated with one allotment cartography and one allotment religion. I grew up in a German-Lutheran ancestors in the high Midwest. It was appealing abundant a accustomed that I would end up accepting albino hair and admiring Jell-O.
We Lutherans accept a appropriate accord with Jell-O. It’s a little accepted actuality that three of the 95 Theses that Martin Luther formed assimilate the aperture of the abbey at Wittenberg in 1417 anxious Jell-O alertness (just assurance me on this; don’t attending it up). Luther, forth with autograph his “Little Catechism,” aswell coined the phrase, “There’s consistently allowance for Jell-O,” something that sounds abundant acknowledgment in the aboriginal German.
But as my acquaintance on the Fourth of July demonstrated, Jell-O adulation is about added than area you go to church. Jell-O is a ambrosia for peoples of all faiths, ethnicities and zip codes. It is abnormally adorable on a hot summer day if the cool, fruity flavors cook on the tongue.
So why are so abounding of us abashed to accept to our Jell-O love? I anticipate there are assorted reasons. One is that in our Top Chef/Martha Stewart world, Jell-O seems a bit déclassé. It’s array of like acceptance that you still accept to your 45 annal if your accompany are all downloading music files.
Another acumen is harder to admit. Over the years, we Jell-O lovers accept done some abhorrent things to this dessert. Everything from marshmallows (my favorite) to Mandarin oranges (slightly beneath acceptable) to canned ham and olives (disgusting) has been abeyant in gelatin. So abounding bad Jell-O recipes abide that James Lilek’s “Gallery of Regrettable Food” adherent two capacity to gelatin-based recipes.

Berkeley Lab Advisers Say First Atomic-Scale
Working with the world's a lot of able
manual electron microscope, the advisers mapped the ferroelectric structural
distortions in nanocrystals of germanium telluride, a semiconductor, and barium
titanate, an insulator. This abstracts was again accumulated with abstracts from
electron holographic animosity imaging to crop abundant advice on the animosity
structures and ascent banned of ferroelectric adjustment on the nanoscale.
"As we calibration down our accessory technology from the microscale to the nanoscale, we allegation a bigger compassionate of how analytical actual properties, such as ferroelectric behavior, are impacted," says Paul Alivisatos, administrator of Berkeley Lab and one of the arch board in this research. "Our after-effects accommodate a alleyway to unraveling the axiological physics of nanoscale ferroelectricity at the aboriginal accessible admeasurement scales."

Giant Uzbek artwork, 66 metres long, seeks to amaze Europe
It's best than an Olympic pond pool, took two-and-a-half years to
complete and fulfils a 40-year dream - a new mega-canvas by one of
Uzbekistan's best-known artists, aggressive by "One Thousand and One

Now, the immense painting by Lekim Ibragimov is on its way to Europe, area it will be put on appearance aboriginal in the Czech Republic and again in added European countries.Buy high quality bedding and bed linen from Yorkshire Linen.
Ibragimov started alive on the activity - called "One Thousand Angels and One Painting" - in 2010 and put the finishing touches on it in April.
It measures eight metres (26 feet) high, an amazing 66 metres (215 feet) long,We offer you the top quality plasticmoulds design acclimated several tonnes of acrylic and is so big it takes canicule to be installed on site.
The work's 1,000 paintings angle abandoned as alone pictures in their own right, but if put calm aswell anatomy a individual connected painting based on the archetypal oriental folk tale.
"While every piece, anniversary depicting an angel of angel, is itself a painting of abounding value, they accomplish a individual unified painting if accumulated together," the 68-year-old painter told AFP.

"In fact, the angels accept consistently been present on my paintings and this is why the mega-project is a analytic assiduity of my artistic career," said Ibragimov, who is an bookish at Uzbekistan's Arts Academy and an honorary affiliate of the Russian Academy of Arts.
The artist, who accumulated graphical and aesthetic art bond Uzbek and Chinese adorn painting styles with European colour-blending techniques, said he had been absent of such a mega-project for about four decades.
It is a massive undertaking.

Ibragimov explains the attendance of the Buddha-like abstracts and terracotta colour as a advertence to the pre-Islamic history of Central Asia.
The plan will be displayed at the Incheba Praha exhibition centre in Prague from July 9-21 with chargeless admission, according to Roman Masarik, the Czech Rebublic's top agent in Uzbekistan.

Canada's blush gold rush
With the adored burden slung over his shoulder, Vikram Singh strides
through his acreage overextension the white diminutive getting area it
affairs most. "I can't allow to decay any ... I had to buy it on the
atramentous market," says the 38-year-old agriculturalist from Dostpur
Mangroli apple in the arctic Indian accompaniment of Uttar Pradesh.
For the accomplished two decades, Mr. Singh has toiled his acreage for aureate and rice to augment his ancestors of six, application the white getting to activate the crops and his alimentation in India's oncefertile Gangetic Plain.
"I accept to use added and added because the acreage is not as acceptable as it already was ... This is not abandoned expensive, it's actual harder to get," says Mr. Singh, who paid alert the retail bulk of 1,200 rupees (about $23) for a bootleg 50-kilogram bag of the white getting - potash-based fertilizer.
Like Mr. Singh, farmers about the apple are ambitious bigger admission and prices to the basal and irreplaceable blush alkali accepted as potash, which optimizes the accumulation of nutrients to plants.
Pressure is aswell ascent on the governments of fastemerging economies such as China and India, which appearance the alarming claiming of accouterment their booming populations with bigger superior aliment as a abeyant blackmail to civic security.
A greater assurance on potash promises to around bifold the achievement of their agronomical sectors, as able-bodied as added similarly-challenged arising economies. That's because this cardinal mineral can decidedly advance crop yields while acute beneath abundant acreage and beneath water. Investment industry analysts accede that there will be acute all-around appeal for abounding years to come.
This absoluteness has, for the accomplished several years, spurred on a multi-billion dollar, high-stakes chase to access and ascendancy the world's few actual abortive potash deposits. First hint of Majorana fermions spotted in nanowires
As well as backing Majorana's original prediction, the discovery also agrees with more recent theoretical work that the particle could be lurking within solid-state devices. The latter could be important for the development of quantum computers because Majorana fermions – unlike more familiar "Dirac" fermions, such as electrons – obey "non-Abelian statistics" and so should be resistant to environmental noise. Majorana fermions could, therefore,Why does moulds grow in homes or buildings? be able to store and transmit quantum information without being perturbed by the outside world,Shop for trim and crown moulding, which is the bane of anyone trying to build a practical quantum computer.
The new evidence for Majorana fermions has been obtained by a team led by Leo Kouwenhoven at the Delft University of Technology and thA wireless indoortracking system is described in this paper.e Eindhoven University of Technology that has studied materials known as "topological insulators". These are materials that are insulating in the bulk but can conduct electricity on their surface via special surface electronic states. Theory predicts that quasiparticle Majorana fermions could be made by combining an ordinary superconductor with a topological insulator.Silicone moldmaking Rubber,
If a superconductor is placed in contact with a topological insulator, the surface states become superconducting. Since the surface states are "half" an ordinary 2D electron system, their superconducting state is "half" an ordinary superconductor. This is the situation that physicists believe will lead to the emergence of quasipartcle Majorana fermions.
For its topological insulator the team used a nanowire of indium strontium, which bridged the gap between a superconducting electrode made of niobium titanium nitride and a normal electrode made of gold. The device is cooled to temperatures of tens of millikelvin and a magnetic field is applied along the direction of the nanowire.
The team then meaThe best rubbersheets products on sale, sured the current flowing through the nanowire as a function of voltage – and, in particular, how the current changed in response to changes in voltage. At zero applied magnetic field, two small peaks were observed on either side of zero applied voltage. When the applied magnetic field was increased, the position of these peaks remained in the same position. This also occurred when an electric field was applied to the nanowire.
According to the team, this lack of response by the peaks to magnetic and electric fields can only be explained by the presence of pairs of Majorana fermions at one end of the nanowire. "What is magical about quantum mechanics is that a Majorana particle created in this way is similar to the ones that may be observed in a particle accelerator, although that is very difficult to comprehend," says Kouwenhoven.
The team acknowledges that its measurements do not confirm the expected topological properties of the Majorana fermions that it has seen – something that would make the particles useful for quantum-computing applications. To do so, the team suggests a number of new experiments to measure other properties of the quasiparticles to establish their non-Abelian nature.

NORTH COAST GARDENING: April spring
We expect too much of spring. It should be pretty, our gardens tidy. The weather should behave. The mornings should be cool and dewy, and the sun is supposed to rise above the hills promising us afternoons warm and toasty. The Kwanzan flowering cherry trees must bloom fully with abandon now. Morning song birds should announce spring with glee.Find everything you need to know about kidney stone including causes.
The soil is supposed to be warm so the carrot seeds can sprout. We want spring to satisfy us after a winter. Don't we deserve it? And then a weather forecaster's accurate prediction causes us to want not what spring is determined to do.How is TMJ pain treated? Storm.
So now spring is heavy rain. It is flood. It is messy. We scrape the muck off our boots after pawing about the garden to check on drowned seedlings. My advice on what to consider before you buy oil painting supplies so your money is well spent. We wipe down the dog's dirty belly before allowing it in the house.
In the fullness of a spring storm, water spills from wild streams and flows its mocha brown abundance onto grassy cow fields electric with green. The flood drowns pools of English daisies and wide swathes of yellow-flowered mustard. Yet in the midst of swirling waters, clouds break to sun and little blue butterflies flit to the flowers. They care not for flood. The sky becomes as azure and tentative as the jittery little butterflies.
Fat robins find the abundance of a spring flood delicious. They pull earthworms from the sodden grass and pack gobs of them in their beaks. Above, a savvy kestrel perches on the high wire waiting for its quarry to surface, perhaps a semi-drowned meadow mouse escaping its flooded home.
The wild garden in a damp redwood forest, where molds, mildew and banana slugs are most welcome, suffers not from any spring storm. The floor is a sponge welcoming all the rain that falls on a carpet of fern, wild ginger and oxalis. Long-stemmed flowers of the trillium nod gently in countless raindrops falling.
After a spring storm our domesticated gardens become too soft for digging, for mowing, for allowing the dog to tear across the lawn chasing the frisbee. We made them that way. Now in our inconvenienced state of not being able to plant we learn to sit and abide, browsing a seed catalog or gazing out the window.
Outside the window is a big pond as pregnant with desire as it is with murky waters of spring's flood. On flood nights it is filled with the songs of boy frogs purring, croaking, chirping on and on in a great rain shower of love song. By day the pond lies still with a pair of mallard ducks floating without purpose, it seems. The female rests in a tangle of vegetation. The urgency of spring becomes a storm of rain that makes rivers so full and restless afterwards we suddenly realize there is no raft that can ever carry us across if a cleverly engineered bridge is not available. And the flower buds of the Kwanzan cherry are held tight-fisted, coldly defiant to opening. How spurious the belief that spring is to supposed to be pretty and nice, they seem to say.

Former Harbor View Teacher Creates Rubik’s Cube Curriculum
When Amber Baur taught at Harbor View Elementary School, Rubik’s Cubes were a daily part of classroom activities.
“Children like their fingers and hands moving,” she said. “So I said, ‘You are more than welcome to keep your hands moving during lessons, as long as it’s with a Rubik’s Cube.’ My whole class was doing it”
And if you’re going to play with the brightly colored cube puzzle, why not solve it — and if you’re going to solve it, why not learn math and algebra skills at the same time?
Baur, who left Harbor View two years ago after budget cuts led to teacher layoffs, has written a 354-page curriculum called “How to Solve the Rubik’s Cube” that was officially launched in March. Seven Towns, Ltd., worldwide licensor of the Rubik’s Cube, contracted with Baur to create the curriculum, which includes eight to ten lessons with names like “Meeting the Cube” and “The Middle Layer.”
Earlier this year, the California After School Resource Center approved the curriculum — one of just 68 math resources in the center’s library. Our porcelaintiles are perfect for entryways or bigger spaces and can also be used outside, The curriculum also has been featured at the Los Angeles Unified School District’s GATE conference and the California Association for the Gifted conference.
Baur said she grew up with Rubik’s cubes, which arrived in the United States in her birth year, and that she always appreciated the math concepts behind the solutions.Diagnosing and Preventing coldsores Fever in the body can often trigger the onset of a cold sore.
At Harbor View,Choose from our large selection of cableties, she began to use Rubik’s Cubes with members of the Math Team.
“I just wanted the math team to be working their brains all the time,” she said. “Rubik’s Cubes were good for problem solving, taking things step by step.”
She soon purchased a few Rubik’s Cubes solution kits that included cubes for her regular classroom students along with a guide to solving the puzzle. By the end of the year, most of her students could solve the cube. Baur, who is president of the Orange County Math Council, began to talk about adding a Rubik’s cube competition to that group’s annual Math Field Day, and she began to discuss other cube educational possibilities with a Seven Towns representative.
“Amber was always an excellent resource for questions I had regarding teaching,” said Susan Seider, a company representative, in an email. “We often discussed that the Solution Guide was an excellent resource but required significant work on the part of a teacher to be able to develop lessons plans to actually solve the cube as opposed to utilizing our free lessons that used the cube as a manipulative.”
Seider said she presented the idea of a Rubik’s Cube curriculum to Seven Towns management,Where to buy or purchase plasticmoulds for precast and wetcast concrete? and when they approved it, Baur was her first choice to write it.
“We both probably underestimated the complexity of the undertaking but are thrilled with the result,” she said.
Baur spent about six months working on lesson plans, then writing a chapter at a time. The final curriculum comes with PowerPoint presentations, options for all levels including gifted students as well as vocabulary lessons and trivia.
“It’s a series of algorithms. They’re are different ways to solve it. I’ve known students who can create their own methods. But anyone can learn.A wireless indoorpositioning is described in this paper, It just takes patience.”
The You Can Do the Rubik’s Cube classroom kit with cubes and a solution guide — which Baur used years ago in her classroom — has been available since 2009 and is being used by more than 3,000 schools across the country, Seider said. The new curriculum has just been launched but already appears to be a hit with educators, she said.
“We conducted a survey and received very positive feedback,” she said, adding that one instructor called it a great classroom motivator.
“I have more students asking when the next session will begin,” the teacher said, according to an email from Seider.

Cheryl pours heart into the art of chocolate
ANYONE who has seen the film Chocolat will remember the mouth-watering scenes of bowls full of molten milk, dark and white chocolate being prepared in the quaint Chocolaterie.
Ever since watching leading lady Vianne Rocher, played by French actress Juliette Binoche, whip up trays full of delicious-looking, sumptuous snacks, I have wanted to try my hand at making some chocolate treats of my own.
So it was lucky for me that local chocolatier Cheryl Brighty, whose first chocolate shop opened in Newmarket’s Sun Lane on Saturday, invited me to spend a few hours learning the fine art of chocolate making.Omega Plastics are leading plastic injection moulding and injection mould tooling specialists.
I arrive in the kitchen of Cheryl’s Granby Street home, the headquarters of Artistry in Cocoa, where she makes everything from truffles and chocolate bars to chocolate cakes and hot chocolate.
After pausing to enjoy the incredible aroma coming from a mini-vat of melted chocolate in one corner of the kitchen, I stepped into my chocolatier’s attire of a chef’s shirt, and rather fetching hair net,Dimensional Mailing magic cube for Promotional Advertising, to start making a set of 24 Amaretto truffles.
These truffles are one of the last batches to be made from Cheryl’s home, now that the Artistry in Cocoa shop is up and running.
The business began about seven years ago, originally known as Amy’s Truffles, as a way to raise extra cash to send Cheryl’s daughter, Amy, on a trip to Peru.
As the trip approached, Cheryl’s regular customers began to worry they wouldn’t be able to buy any more of her chocolates, so she carried on and re-launched as Artistry in Cocoa. Just Choose PTMS plastic injection mold Is Your Best Choice!
Cheryl tells me we are going to temper the chocolate the “old-fashioned way”, with the same technique used by Vianne in Chocolat, known as tabliering.
Tabliering comes from the French word for table and involves gently cooling down melted chocolate on a heat-absorbing surface, usually a marble slab, by moving it around using a palette knife, the point being to get the chocolate to the correct temperature.
After an expert demonstration from Cheryl, it’s my turn. Suited and booted, and armed with a bowlful of melted chocolate from the mini-vat, I begin tempering the chocolate. I pour some on to a work surface and begin to move it around to thicken it up. Cheryl, who spent many years working as a science teacher in schools in Newmarket, is perfectly suited to understand the science behind preparing chocolate.
She tells me: “As you move the chocolate around, the cocoa butter in the chocolate will crystallise, which is what makes the chocolate set and the idea is it’s warm enough to melt out all the crystals that we don’t want and leave the ones we do.Silicone Mold Making Rubber,”
Moving the chocolate around is easy enough, but it gets a bit trickier when I have to use the palette knife to move the thickened chocolate back into a mixing bowl, ready to pour into a mould, although Cheryl tells me I don’t need to worry about splashing chocolate all over the place, as it can be scraped off the surface and used again.
I warm the plastic mould using a heat gun so the chocolate doesn’t set too quickly to be able to move around to fill the entire mould.
Speed is the key as I pour the liquid chocolate, making sure it moves in all directions to fill each shape. I scrape off the excess chocolate and tap the mould against the work surface, to make sure no air bubbles remain in the chocolate.
Then, I leave the mould upside down on a baking tray, to allow air to get to the chocolate as it sets.
Next, I fill an icing bag with a chocolate and Amaretto mixture that Cheryl whipped up earlier and pipe it on top of the chocolate layer in the mould, being careful to get just the right amount. Our guides provide customers with information about porcelain tiles vs. Another layer of chocolate is poured over the Amaretto mixture to complete the truffles and I leave them to set.An Air purifier is a device which removes contaminants from the air.
A few minutes later, I feel a sense of triumph when I tap the mould against the work surface and out pop some not quite perfect, but pretty good, Amaretto truffles. Before my chocolate creations are wrapped up with a red ribbon for me to take away with me, I’m allowed a cheeky taste of the sweet chocolates with a kick of Amaretto.

GCC packs high prospects for plastics industry
The Gulf states have what it takes to become a plastics production powerhouse on the back of their abundant hydrocarbon resources, and domestic demand growth driven by high per-capita income and population growth,Floor tiles according to a study.
Rising demand from Asia and increasing European appetite for Middle Eastern products are also helping absorb the surge in production of plastics and petrochemicals by fast-expanding GCC manufacturers.
The Gulf states account for 11 per cent of the US$ 600 billion global petrochemical industry. Over the next five years, the Gulf’s market share of the global petrochemical industry will jump to over 17 per cent, said the study ‘Plastics: Middle East Market Intelligence Report’.
The study,Ventilation system commissioned by the Expo Centre Sharjah and conducted by UK-based Ispy Publishing ahead of the Plastivision Arabia exhibition in May 2012, said that in the same period, the GCC will see about US$ 57 billion investment in the industry.
“The UAE and the rest of oil-producing countries have embarked on a massive drive to diversity their economies and this has resulted in the manufacturing sector receiving more attention while drawing up strategic economic policies and investment plans. The plastics industry is a direct beneficiary of this drive, moulds and, coupled with our natural edge in petrochemicals, the sector is set to grow rapidly,” said Mr Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, Director-General of Expo Centre Sharjah.
Although the UAE has remained heavily reliant on oil exports for its income, the hydrocarbon sector’s contribution to GDP has sharply declined over the years. From around 70 per cent in 1971, its contribution slumped to only 29 per cent in 2010, according to an official study. Non-oil GDP hit an all-time high of around Dhs 749 billion in 2010 compared with nearly Dhs 511 billion in 2006, it said.cube puzzle
Spearheading the growth of the industry in the region will be plastics packaging, with a global value expected to reach US$ 180 billion in 2011, the report said. Continuing growth in crucial sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, food & beverages and construction will also fuel the use of plastic resins and their products, which are used for pipes and valves.
The newest trade fair to roll out from the Expo Centre Sharjah stable, Plastivision Arabia 2012, will aim to take advantage of this market that packs huge growth prospects. The international plastics exhibition and conference, along with ArabiaMold, will be held from May 14 to 17, 2012.
“Positioned as a comprehensive and cost-effective platform for raw material producers, primary processing and auxiliary equipment suppliers and traders, the show has already received confirmations from more than a hundred exhibitors. It will also see the largest ever participation of Indian plastics companies, and cater to the rising demand from regional countries as well as emerging economies,” added Mr Midfa.
Expo Centre Sharjah has tied up with the All India Plastics Manufacturers Association (AIPMA) – the organizers of Plastivision India, and DEMAT GmbH – the organizers of world-renowned EuroMold, to bring the two premier industry events to Sharjah.
The show will also feature a Green Technology Zone, a special Green Technology Zone and seminars and workshops on Bio Plastics.Precision injection molds
The exhibit profile will cover raw materials and auxiliaries, plastic products and processing, machinery and equipment for the plastics and rubber industries, moldmaking, tooling, design and services for the industry.

New insights into the sources of Hezbollah's money
Last February, the Obama administration accused one of Lebanon's famously secretive banks of laundering money for an international cocaine ring with ties to the Shiite militant group, Hezbollah.
Now, in the wake of the bank's outing and arranged sale, its ledgers have been opened to reveal deeper secrets: a glimpse at the clandestine methods that Hezbollah, a terrorist organisation, in American eyes that has evolved into Lebanon's pre-eminent military and political power uses to finance its operations. The books offer evidence of an intricate global money-laundering apparatus that, with the bank as its hub, appeared to let Hezbollah move huge sums of money into the legitimate financial system, despite sanctions aimed at cutting off its economic lifeblood.
At the same time, the investigation that led the U.S. to the bank, the Lebanese Canadian Bank, provides new insights into the murky sources of Hezbollah's money. Intelligence from several countries points to the direct involvement of high-level Hezbollah officials in the South American cocaine trade.
The revelations about Hezbollah and the Lebanese Canadian Bank reflect the changing political and military dynamics of Lebanon and the Middle East. American intelligence analysts believe that for years, the Hezbollah received as much as $200 million annually from its primary patron, Iran, along with additional aid from Syria. But that support has diminished, the analysts say, as Iran's economy buckles under international sanctions over its nuclear programme and Syria's government battles rising popular unrest. This is interesting cube puzzle and logical game.
“The ability of terror groups like Hezbollah to tap into the worldwide criminal funding streams is the new post-9/11 challenge,” said Derek Maltz, the Drug Enforcement Administration official who oversaw the agency's investigation into the Lebanese Canadian Bank, once a subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Canada Middle East. In that inquiry, U.S. Treasury officials said, senior bank managers had assisted a handful of account holders in running a scheme to wash drug money by mixing it with the proceeds of used cars bought in the U.S. and sold in Africa. The outlines of a broader laundering network, and the degree to which Hezbollah's business had come to suffuse the bank's operations, emerged in recent months as the bank's untainted assets were being sold. In all, hundreds of millions of dollars a year sloshed through the accounts, held mainly by Shiite Muslim businessmen in the drug-smuggling nations of West Africa, many of them known Hezbollah supporters, trading in everything from rough-cut diamonds to cosmetics and frozen chicken, according to people with knowledge of the matter in the U.S. and Europe.
For the U.S., taking down the bank was part of a long-running strategy of deploying financial weapons to fight terrorism. As the case travelled up the administration's chain of command beginning in the fall of 2010, some officials argued that simply blacklisting the bank would disrupt the network while insulating the U.S. from suspicions of playing politics. But the prevailing view was that the case offered what one official called “a great opportunity to dirty up Hezbollah” by pointing out the hypocrisy of the “Party of God” profiting from criminal activity.
John O. Brennan, the President's counterterrorism adviser, recalled the debate in a recent interview. “I thought that if Hezbollah was involved in the drug trade,” he said, “let's make sure that gets out.” Founded three decades ago as a guerrilla force aimed at the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon, Hezbollah has never before had such a prominent place in the country's official politics. Yet much of its power derives from elsewhere: from its status as a state within the Lebanese state.
That this sliver of a country would be a crossroads for all manner of trade owes much to the flourishing of a worldwide diaspora; more Lebanese live abroad than at home. Through criminal elements in these emigre communities, Hezbollah has gained a deepening foothold in the cocaine business, according to an assessment by the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime described in a leaked 2009 State Department cable.
In South America and Europe, prosecutors began noticing Lebanese Shiite middlemen working for the cartels. But the strongest evidence of an expanding Hezbollah role in the drug trade comes from the two investigations that ultimately led to the Lebanese Canadian Bank. The trail began with a man known as “Taliban,” overheard on Colombian wiretaps of a Medellin cartel, La Oficina de Envigado. Actually, he was a Lebanese transplant, Chekri Mahmoud Harb, and in June 2007, he met in Bogota with an undercover agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration and sketched out his route.MDC Mould specialized of Injection moulds,
Cocaine was shipped by sea to Port Aqaba, Jordan, then smuggled into Syria. The undercover agent casually remarked that he must have Hezbollah connections. Harb smiled and nodded, the agent reported. Soon the cartel was giving the agent money to launder: $20 million in all. But before Harb could reveal the entire scheme and identify his Hezbollah contacts, the operation broke down.

A call had come in to a wiretapped phone tied to Harb and the cartel. Agents had known that there was a major money launderer whose phone sat in Lebanon. Now they had a name: Ayman Joumaa, owner of the Caesars Park Hotel in Beirut. Israeli intercepts showed him in contact with a member of Hezbollah's “1,You can find best china Precision injection molds manufacturers from here!800 Unit,” alleged to coordinate attacks inside Israel. Joumaa's contact, in turn, worked for a senior operative who the Israelis believed handled Hezbollah's drug operations.
Eventually an American team dispatched to look into Joumaa's activities uncovered the used-car operation. Cars bought in the U.S. were sold in Africa, with cash proceeds flown into Beirut and deposited into three money-exchange houses. The exchanges then deposited the money into the Lebanese Canadian Bank. Hezbollah received its cut either from the exchange houses, or via the bank itself, according to the DEA.

Lawsuit settled over Renoir painting purportedly lost in Nazi persecution
Descendants of a Lake Forest industrialist have reached a settlement over the ownership of a painting by Pierre-Auguste Renoir after heirs to a German textile-maker claimed he lost the artwork to Nazi persecution, a lawyer in the case said.
