Householders across Flintshire have spent weeks complaining about problems with their waste collections, which have left some roads piled high with black bin bags.
Some areas have not had their bins collected for more than a month, including the Civic Hall in Connah’s Quay – the main base of the town council.
Central ward councillor Bernie Attridge is calling for an urgent investigation into the situation, which he branded a “crisis for the county”.
He said: “I just don’t understand how the managed weekly collections have turned into this.
“I am personally inundated with calls regarding the black bags which are littering nearly everywhere in Connah’s Quay.Omega Plastics are leading plastic injection moulding and injection mould tooling specialists.
“The Civic Hall has not had its trade waste collected for more than a month and the bags are piled high at the back of the building.”
Cllr Attridge said he has seen a huge increase in fly-tipping by householders fed up with having to keep rotting rubbish in their gardens.
He added: “I have seen a 100% increase in fly-tipping and some areas are just like slums.
“I have also been told that there has been a huge increase in rats in people’s gardens because of the huge piles of rubbish being left there. This is a serious health concern.”
Council chiefs have blamed the chaos on “teething problems” with a new system aimed at increasing recycling, which was implemented several weeks ago.
Workers from other departments at the council’s County Hall headquarters in Mold have been drafted in to help field the huge number of calls being made to the authority’s Street Scene department by angry residents.
Cllr Attridge added: “People are reporting all kinds of problems, not just missed collections. An Air purifier is a device which removes contaminants from the air.
“There are issues with the new bins going missing – some have been found in the backs of waste collection vehicles due to them falling in when they are lifted up to be emptied.
“I know it’s Christmas time but this whole thing is turning into a nightmare pantomime.
“We cannot carry on like this. The council offices will close for Christmas tomorrow and then dozens of people will be left with piles of rubbish over Christmas.Bathroom Floor tiles at Great Prices from Topps Tiles.
