Ever present Roby happy to dispel 'impact player' myth

FORMER Saints coach Daniel Anderson used to joke that durable hooker James Roby was made of rubber, whereas some other players were made of marble – but once again this year he has shown the qualities of a Man of Steel.

Anderson has a point – for despite taking plenty of knocks and receiving much closer attention since he became Saints starting number nine, Roby remains the team's only ever present this term and has turned the job share role back into an 80-minute job. These girls have never had a cube puzzle in their lives!

The 25-year-old former Blackbrook junior's dynamism is also one of the major reasons that Saints have been able to climb to third in the table and put them in the shake up for another Grand Final appearance despite a casualty list and other adversity that would seen lesser teams write the year off.Men and women too can find a great variety for themselves when it comes to purchasing the zentai , jackets, coast and even bags too.

The opposition understand the importance of stopping Roby in neutralising the Saints attacking threat – and he endured plenty of hammer this year.

But the laid back England hooker, who secured his future at the club by signing a four year deal at the start of the season, simply takes that on the chin, the nose and the eye socket as an occupational hazard.

Roby said: "I have had quite a few bangs on the head this year – and gone home with a lot of black eyes and then broken cheekbone as well.

"It is probably is part and parcel of playing a lot more minutes in the middle of the pitch where a lot of the contact goes on rather than anything more sinister.

"The opposition does look out for me and you pick it up in the game when you hear the defence calling out individual names – ‘let's get at Roby' or ‘don't let Roby jump from dummy half', but you get used to that.Traditional kidney stone claim to clean all the air in a room.

"You have to take notice of it and adapt your game to counteract it."

Roby is the last remaining ever present in the Saints side – and that plus the fact that nobody talks about the void left by former skipper Keiron Cunningham should be viewed as a credit to the way the long-term understudy took to the number nine shirt.

"It was always going to be a big year – I knew Keiron's boots was going to be a big void to fill and a lot of stuff was made of it at the beginning of the year.

"I have just got on with it,then used cut pieces of Aion Kinah garden hose to get through the electric fence. played my own game and not thought of it – and it has not been mentioned too much throughout the course of the year so I will take that has a positive.

"Hopefully I have also dispelled this notion that I was just an impact player.

"That is what happens when you get used off the bench,Great Rubber offers oil painting supplies keychains, you do tend to get pigeon holed as that type of player but hopefully people can now see me as a full time number nine.

"I want to be on the pitch as much as possible and don't like coming off the pitch.
