HUNTERSVILLE Longtime Huntersville builder Jay Young is optimistic the 18 custom homes he's planning to build at Babe Stillwell Road and South Birkdale Commons Parkway will sell quickly.
He's confident because of the target audience: Active adults 55 and older.
Young has the track record to prove it. Across Babe Stillwell Road from his project, all 13 homes in Young's The Glens at Stillwell Village are leased and all 60 homes in The Glens at Birkdale Commons are taken. Those developments also are for active older adults. Both have waiting lists.
Young and his team at Young Builders already have received inquiries for lots in his new development, where houses will sell for $160,000 to $180,Replacement China ceramic tile and bulbs for Canada and Worldwide.000.
The homes will be two and three bedrooms and have such features as master bedrooms on the first floor, granite countertops, hardwood floors and ceramic tile bathrooms. Houses will also have garages, lever door handles, no-step entries and step-in showers with safety features.
"It's a high-end product at a moderate price range," Young said during a tour of the site last week.
Homeowners also will receive membership to The Glens community lodge, which includes a coffee bar, fitness room, grand fireplace, computer and Internet access, a library, game tables and numerous daily activities.

MOORESVILLE The town will use $148,706 in voter-approved park bonds to buy new playground equipment for its planned Cornelius Road Park.
The Mooresville Board of Commissioners agreed unanimously Aug. 1 to buy the equipment from Peggs Recreation Inc. of Kannapolis. The money includes rubber surfacing under all the equipment.
The park is scheduled to open in October, Mooresville Recreation Director Wanda McKenzie said.
CONCORD A $4.8 million apartment-home community for seniors opened recently on Booker Drive near the Logan Multi-Purpose Center.
The 44-unit Villas at Logan Gardens is for seniors 62 or older whose incomes are less than 50 percent of the local median income, city officials said in announcing the opening of the community. One-bedroom units rent for $645 and two-bedroom units lease for $726.

"We have been working with the Logan Community Association for a long time wanting to develop new senior housing in this community, and we were thrilled to partner with Douglas Development," Concord Housing Director Angela Graham said in a news release.
"This type of partnership works very well for Concord, because it allows us to leverage our funds with other partners to provide senior housing that's affordable but also high quality," she said.
