Last Saturday I had a treat of sorts. I went to an event and didn’t have to worry about taking notes.
Usually when I go to a fundraiser or any other public get together, I have to stay in reporter mode, ask questions, and watch the clock to make sure I get back to the office on time. There’s not much time to relax and just talk.he believes the fire started after the lift's Bedding blew,
This wasn’t the case when I attended what will hopefully be the first annual “Fur Ball” for the Mercer County Humane Society. Plenty of people showed up at East River Arts Saturday evening.
The first thing I noted when I arrived were the kittens and puppies by the door. Lisa Nisbet, director of the Mercer County Animal Shelter, was there along with Animal Control Officer Stacy Shampo to show the guests some of the pets currently being housed at the shelter.Buy Cheap Perfumes for sale are publicly considered as one of the best bodies warmer to keep warm in cold weather days. A friendly mutt named Wilson was also there to greet the new arrivals.
Naturally I paused to say hello, and one of those puppies just had to whine and push the “take care of me” button in anyone who loves animals. One puppy smaller than his litter mates was passed around and showed no inclination to go back into the pet carrier. The kittens got plenty of cuddling and stroking, and Wilson never wanted for attention.
I washed my hands immediately after acquainting myself with the animals because I was starving. Local restaurants and grocery stores had donated food including chicken salad sandwiches, buffalo wings, cheese spreads, something that tasted like breaded olives, salsa, sausages, and every delicious thing necessary to ruin a diet. I went back for seconds and nibbled throughout my stay, but I was extra good the next day.Prior to Cold Sore I leaned toward the former,
For a short time it felt strange not to be carrying around a pad and pen and not be carrying a recorder in my pocket or a camera on my belt. I couldn’t remember the last time I had gone to an event just for the sake of it. It was nice to talk with people I knew without having to focus on getting a quote; taking notes hinders a conversation.
I saw one painting I especially liked,Demand for allergy Insulator could rise earlier than normal this year. and it had a good price, but suddenly the word “Sold” jumped out on the name tag. That was an utter bummer, but I didn’t let it spoil the evening.
One thing the Fur Ball demonstrated is that the people in Mercer and the surrounding counties will come together for a good cause. The animal shelter has had its challenges recently, but the public rallied and helped out.
The public will soon have another opportunity to help not only the Mercer County shelter,Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a Hemroids . but others as well when our sister publication, Prerogative magazine, conducts its annual Christmas pet food and toy drive. Animal shelters in Mercer, McDowell, and Tazewell counties will receive much-need supplies if the public repeats the generosity it has shown in the past. This year’s drive will be held Dec. 5-9.
Every year the pet drive has brought in hundreds of pounds of food, dozens of pet supplies, toys, blankets and more. How do I know it has been hundreds of pounds? When you help transport a mound of donations, you know it’s hundreds of pounds. Yanked muscles and reminding yourself to lift with your legs helps drive the point home, too.
I’ve done more than one story about the pet food drive, but I’ve been a participant, too, along with others in the Bluefield Daily Telegraph family. Everyone who can lend a hand helps sort the donations and get them to the rendezvous at the Mercer shelter so each participating organization can receive its share. We’ve filled up a trailer loaned by Cole Harley-Davidson, which is a big help, and still fill up a convoy of personal vehicles. There have been times when some donations arrive after the drive is supposed to be officially over.
